strut won't come out, still feels like its under pressure

ok, i'm trying to get my strut out to swap springs...i've followed the DIY and the youtube video, but for some reason, my strut isn't moving freely like the video. it's like it's still got a load on it.

i'm a big guy and i'm yankin on this thing like there's no tomorrow and i cant get it out. it won't come down from where it meets the body at all. like when it says to "slide the lower fork forward" my fork won't move. i mean, if i STEP on the control arm, then it might, but i don't want to break anything...

how hard can i shove down on the control arm assy? but it doesn't seem like it would matter because it's held in place by the lower endlink....should i try and get the lower control arm off of the endlink?

any help is appreciated. :)

You wont break it, you need to pull down on it pretty hard to bring out the strut. Your other option is to remove the LCA.

use a bar of some sort, like if you were you pry it up and out.
Under the fork.
And ar you doing one side at a time?

Did you unbolt the swaybar endlink? If not, unbolt that from the LCA and everything will drop down and fall out.

IIIHawKIII Aug 3, 2011 07:23 PM

i took the nut off of the endlink....and tried to slide it back thru the other way, but it won't slide out of the LCA.

thanks for all the super fast replies. i'm bout to go hulk smash this thing....

yeah, i'm doing one side at a time.

If you break your endlink, replace it anyhow the stock ones suck.

the rusty bolt there on the right...how do i get that to back out? should i jack up the control arm assy and try and push it backwards? or bang on it with a hammer? that seems like it would chew the threads up....

LordFappington Aug 3, 2011 07:27 PM

Slightly jack up your LCA until its not totally hanging on the endlink. Back it out with a hammer.

chink-ah-saur Aug 3, 2011 07:27 PM

Lift the whole front end up, then wd40 were fork is, then use pry bar or thick screwdriver, up & over

DAAHHHHHARHARHAR HAVE YOU SEEN MY BASEBALL??

i got it. needed to jack up the whole assy so the bolt wasn't all cockeyed in the hole.

bring on the facepalm gifs.

LordFappington Aug 3, 2011 07:39 PM

im currently having the same issue, tension it seems like on EVERYTHING... the endlink bolts are so crooked its impossible to get them out, as well as the lower bolt for the strut assy... all im trying to do is replace the upper control arms but the eibach springs are in the way so i need to lower/move the strut.. what is wrong with the thing...

I did mine last weekend. Remove the bolt connecting your LCA to your rotor assembly. Move the rotor out of the way, and remove the bolt to your end link. Then jack up the LCA to straighten out the end link bolt and it should come right out, then you will be able to lower the jack, drop your LCA and remove the strut
