Installing Coils as an amateur :(
:confused2:
I'm considering installing my Tanabe ProFIVE Coilovers by myself soon... I'm a little worried 'cause all I have is jack stands. Not very worried though; They're pretty much brand new. Still, I will try to follow the instructions here thorougly, but it doesn't hurt to ask once more if there are any tips suggestions hints anything. Please and thank you~ |
Have a buddy help you, try watching youtube install videos and have some confidence, best of luck
|
Thank you! Nice and simple advice like that really helps still; especially the boost of confidence :)

You are gonna need more than jack stands like tools ;) a breaker bar can come in handy. Just do your homework and expect to use up your entire day. For me, g35's are a difficult car to work on compared to other cars. GL...

good luck bro

I have not done the G but many other cars over the years and best thing is to never do something like this alone (as stated above).
Best of Luck! Jason |
I did mine as an amateur just following DIY's, you'll be fine. It is extremely helpful to have a friend, if for nothing else, just to lend you a free hand and to give you confidence in what you are doing. Other than that, PB Blaster and/or a breaker bar can be a very helpful addition.

+1 on everything they said...i did mine as an amateur. my step dad is a mechanic so that helped having him help and he has lots of tools. fronts are harder then the rears so u might wanna get the fronts out of the way first and its all downhill from there.

Just make sure you have a laptop with pics hand or you really take a good look at a bunch of pics before you go out. Many people doing coils themselves, and almost myself except for remembering pictures, installs the rear springs incorrectly with the perch on the wrong end and leaving the springmount as well as not setting rear preload.
|
It's doable, but helpful to have a friend there. You might want to have a hydraulic jack on hand as well.
|
Thanks all. Very excited to do this :-D I've already planned to have a friend at least be there just to keep me company. -unstable state of mind after being dumped-. xd
I'll make sure go grab some extra tools. Thanks again! (Entering my topic is basically "come get free Thank button push!" haha) |
haha I noticed that. No need to thank me though. :D
|
I thanked you twice in the DIY thread already xd.
Saving names for my "Thank You" list when my car has reached a milestone (on my terms) in modification :) |
'Preciate that.
And since we have the same coils feel free to PM me any questions you have in the future. |

The G is a very simple car to work on as most Nissan's are. Trying coilovers in a Mercedes.... |
