Y-pipe choices?

I'm trying to get a y-pipe but I don't know which manufacturer to go with.. I am really noob at this, and any suggestions and/or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. I have a tanabe medalion and I like the sound.. Would the y-pipe change the sound significantly? I have headers as well .. I don't know if I should put them in or not..

Suggestions?!!

Thanks!

Motordyne XYZ y-pipe.

Would this ypipe affect sound as well as power? Idk.. i suck.

Sound is up to you. The XYZ y-pipe has the option of a straight pipe, resonator or cat module. Pick the one that fits you. The XYZ pipe is probably one of the most advance y-pipe for our cars.

Read this thread for more info.

After that, I'd recommend Motordyne ART pipes and a tune.

If have a Tanabe y-pipe and love it paired with my Tanabe medallion exhaust (for the Sedan). I also have MD ART pipes. Can't go wrong with MD either.

Hmm.. I haven't even seen any tanabe y pipes.. I'll look around I guess... Are headers even worth putting in?

Depends on what your goals are. If you want to eek out every bit of performance and are going to get tuned then get headers. The price of the parts and install though for the amount of power you would gain is pretty high.

I already have the headers.. i just need to install them.. but they quoted me like 400 just to install headers...

CandlestickPark 03-07-2012 05:44 PM

^Sounds about right. Its not a quick install.

Megan Y-pipe is trash, right?

Frankieg35 03-07-2012 05:48 PM

Whats a better option xyz or hr y pipe??

CandlestickPark 03-07-2012 05:51 PM

^Depends on the rest of your exhaust setup (diameter of piping). I swear I've seen a dyno plot of the HR-Pipe vs the XYZ. Lemme see if I can find it...

I wanna keep it stock behind the y pipe.. Didnt know if i should pick up the xyz so i can do art pipes and be able to run the cat module or just get the hr y and keep the stock cats..

The ART pipes with XYZ and cat module is not a cheap option. Well over $1k. If your keeping it stock post y-pipe, and really want the increased tq in the low end, I'd get it. But to be honest, is that bump in power below 3k rpm worth $1k?

To answer your question, XYZ hands down if your serious about getting some supporting mods and tune. No other y-pipe is as versatile as the XYZ pipe. If not, just get a y-pipe of your choice. I noticed increased throttle response with the HR y-pipe and that's about it. Slight change in tone.

If you really want ART pipes and want to run a cat module at the same time while avoiding the exhaust smell, XYZ is pretty much the only bolt on option.

Yeah I'm thinking of just getting the hr y pipe.. I'm not trying to spend that much on an exhaust..
