does anyone else take off on 2nd gear?

I feel that 1st gear is extremely short and meanwhile I'm shifting to second smoothly, everyone that is auto is passing me up

Depending on the car, many do exactly that. Or skip a gear.

For example, in my 5-speed Xr7, I never use 4th. 3rd goes to 110, so I pop right to 5th for 80mph, 2k rpm crusing Or 2nd most times, since I run 1st to 40 then 3rd for city driving.

All the time.
People say it puts more wear but I think there's less wear then when shifting any gear normally
Also helps if you have an exhaust like myself an need to keep it quiet around a cop

Not on my G35, but I do skip gears almost all the time.... usually 1/2/4/6 or 1/3/6.

I wish our cars were geared a bit taller... particularly 6th.

not more wear on the trans, but it can cause more wear on the clutch. Typically when people start out in 2cnd theres a longer engagement time.

Cold or ice on the roads and I do that to keep traction. Usually skip gears when reving high for some reason.

hmm.. being a fairly new standard driver.. i thought for sure this would be bad for the car/trans... i do find the 1st-2nd shifting seems slow though when you shift smooth definately looks funny when 1st-2nd cars pass me when im driving smooth, then i stay in second for a few extra seconds and pass them into 3rd

Letting off in 2nd isnt that's bad but if constantly done, your clutch will wear out faster than normal. I almost never skip a gear upshifting, to me the car drives a lot smoother that way. But downshifting I almost always go 6-5-3-N just drivers prefence.

lot of people have a hard time getting used to our clutches, the spring removal or other mods make it easier to start from 1st gear.less travel, less jerky

downshift rev matching and using the clutch

So i have had my car for about 3 months now and it is a 6 spd mt...I drive it everysingle day(mostly freeway) and so far so good clutch feels strong,no slips or grinding gears, but I had a question.let's say I was going about 50 mph on a highway and I wanted to go to a stop because of a red light, when I down shift I rev match when I can but how am I supposed to rev match use the clutch and the break at the same time while coming to a hard stop? Is it better to just put it in neutral and brake? Because I am aware that letting the clutch(not using pushing the gas pedal) out slowly while downshifting is bad for your clutch because you are burning it.so what would be the correct procedure for coming to a hard stop at like 40-50 mph?
