Power seat won't move back and forth?
So today I went to see a G off craigslist and all went well except a few minor issues.
The issue that was the Worst was the drivers power seat won't move back and forth, and also the oher direction which I'm not familiar with. It will move the seat up and down but nothing other than that. I was curious if this is a simple fix or could be an expensive fix And if anybody has hhad this issue and resolved it? |
if its the switch problem, check this website out

or if its the gear , check this out
http://www.odometergears.com/documen...eplacement.pdf my pass. seat was out last week and it turn out to be the switch's problem, so i just replace the switch and good to go |
Did it make the electric motor noise but just not move? Or did it do nothing at all when you pushed the switch?
If it made the noise, it's probably the teeth on those crappy little plastic gears. It's an easy but surprisingly expensive fix. I believe the replacement parts are like $65. |
Even if you can do it yourself, putting in new gears could be a realy PITA. If it isn't the gears, it can be very expensive to buy new seat parts from Infiniti. Keep in mind these seats have a bunch of gears/movement plus heaters and air bags. If you are in love with the car, you can always find used seats here at the marketplace or just put in some racing seats.

My only option is to tell the seller that he has to get it fixed or take off a couple hundred off the price. Also: forgot to mention that the guy is 6 ft 1 and I am 5"10 and its stuck in his position so to press the clutch I have to sloutch in my seat with my head against the back part of the seat and it is really a dumb idea if I buy it as it is. Hah |
I would see if he will fix it first. A couple hundred isn't going to cover your time/money.

I hear you can manually move it if you open the seat up. That could be a temporary or even permanent fix. A few weeks ago my passenger seat stopped tilting but would slide forward/backward. I remedied that by spraying WD-40 in the switch and letting it sit overnight, which was a solution that I found here on Driver. There was probably gunk in there preventing it from operating properly/at all. Give that a shot -- it may save you A LOT of money for the time being.

Yup I sprayed it directly onto the switches and around the edges of the switches so that it would go through them and onto whatever is underneath it. It worked really well!
|
It isn't odd if he already took it in and got an estimate (expensive) to fix it. He will have a hard time selling it without that seat working.

Rip em' out n put some bride seats in!! :JAMIN:

My bet it is the $135 seat switch you can buy from sewellparts. It was on mine anyway. The switch is very poorly designed with small, thin, plastic tangs that move the micro switch. When they break, that's it, no more contact. I have the 2003 (doggy door) model with every rwd option.

Mine was doing the same thing, when I checked the fuse box one of the 10 amp fuses was blown... check the fuse box for any blown fuses
|
Pretty sure there isn't a separate fuse just for the up and back. I assumed the other functions were working.
