Oil Filter Shock

What the heck?

I am getting ready to change the oil on my 05 coupe. The stock oil filter is unbelievably small for a high performance 3.5 liter engine. I am not comfortable with the filtering ability of a filter that looks like it belongs on a 400cc motorcycle.

Is there a larger capacity filter we can use?

Thanks.

I think Grubbs Performance has a larger Nissan filter, and also a pricey K&N filter for the G.

I change my oil every 3000 miles so I'm not worrying about the short stock filter.

They are puney aren't they? I figure if Nissan is happy with it, it must be ok.

I asked the same question at my dealership, and was told that the stock filter (pn 15208-65F00) can be replaced with the Maxima filter (pn 15208-9E000).
So I've been running the larger Maxima filter on my ride.
Double check with the dealer to make sure because I'm not sure if there's any changes from my '03 to your '05. I doubt it, but make sure anyway.

The last time I saw a 65F00 cut open, it had Fram-ish cardboard endcaps. While I havent read of any failures, I've been avoiding the OEM. The 9E000 uses metal endcaps and is probably as good as any filter out there.

The PureOne is a slightly larger, but ultimately the reduced flow worried me.

It would appear from tests on Bobistheoilguy that flow is slightly more important than filtration (under normal operating conditions and ODI's). For that reason, I've been using the K&N.

Even a VQ3.0 with a 9E000 didnt do with well with 9000+ mile ODIs. I'm thinking filtration isnt going to vastly improve with the 9E000. But its still a better filter.

I recall reading something about a smaller filter can for increased oil pressure, but that sounds negligable. I suspect its more because the VQ is used on other platforms and some have clearance issues (where even the 9E000 wont fit).
