Major Oil Consumption Issue
Hey I recently bought a 04 Coupe 6MT 100K's (60k miles) and have been experiencing major oil consumption.
At first I noticed that my exhaust tips would always get filled with carbon, even after wiping them off, one drive and it is filled with carbon again. Then later I checked my oil and it was at the very lowest and was pitch black, I thought this was very weird because just 2 weeks or so ago I checked it at the dealer and it was around 75%. I got an oil change done using Amsoil 5W30 synthetic and thought that was all I needed, after not even 100 Kilometers I checked the oil again, it was below half and pretty dirty. How can this be burning this much oil? since the oil change I have driven not even 500 kilometers and have had to put about 4 liters of oil in to stop it from getting low. I changed PCV and it still is the same. I think now all i can do is get a new VQ35DE....any other suggestions before I look for a new engine? and anyone else experienced oil consumption of this magnitude before? should I just keep topping off till the engine dies? should I try to sell it? Thanks |
Get the appropriate leak down test and pressure test from your dealer. It could be somewhat related to the REVUP oil consumption issues. Check out that thread.

Never heard of a DE motor having oil consumption issues, better follow Urban's advice and go read through the oil consumption thread!

Alright I will look at that thread but I do not notice any power loss, it still pulls strong

Yea just look under the car for any signs of oil leak.
my car is leaking oil where the oil filter screws on, Im gonna replace the gasket my next oil change. Even with that leak and my valve cover sparkplug tubes leaking, my oil never needs to be topped off and between oil changes. Good luck and keep us informed. Here is the link to the o-ring diy just incase you find out that it is your oil cooler o-ring https://g35driver.com/forums/engine-...ement-v35.html |

I bet you will find all your oil in your cats. Do as the others have said which is get a leak down and compression test. If you can throw your car on the dyno and get the AFR along with HP / TQ to find out how your motor is performing and compare to others who have posted stock dyno. If you are loosing 4 liters in 500km than I would imagine piston rings or valve stem oil seals.

OP, your engine has its days numbered. My 04 coupe had its engine replaced at 51K under warranty. The "carbon" you keep wiping is not what you think it is.... Its OIL. Get a compression test and go from there.

Thanks guys, I will look into getting a compression test

I tried 2 different places one guy quoted me $900 labor other guy $1800, and new engine might burn oil too... I think that I will put it on auctions and see, if I don't find an engine....

Okay, I am currently looking for an engine, when checking car-part.com I see these two options. Which one do I pick? my coupe is an 04.
