I messed up, any ideas? can't open door...

Hey so I was painting a few Interior pieces of my car and they turned out great.

Issue was that I took out the interior door handles and put the door panel back on so it didn't scrape the ground. Door accidently closed when I got to it. To top it all off my lock actuator broke so I can't open or close my passenger door.

Basically I'm assuming I have to hopelessly fish out the cable or cut the door panel and unlock it from there. Already looking at buying a used panel :(

Any magical solution someone knows about? I'm pretty sure I just screwed myself so I'm not expecting much

what kind of car....??? my coupe has a trunk that i can open and theres this lever that lets the back seats go down. maybe that could work for you also.

2004 coupe and I should have been more clear I can get in my car just fine on the driver side just can't open the passenger door anymore so that door is basically useless.

I'm gonna try and cut out the leather and see if I can do this in a way I don't have to replace the whole panel

Weld it shut and get in thru the window like dukes of hazard. Haha jk

I have no idea.

Lmfao ok I just saved myself on this o e so here's a quick guide for anyone who has a locked door and needs to get to the cables:

Get a knife, sharp and thin. Cut a long the leather seam on the panel from the arm rest up and lengthwise halfway across the panel. Pry back and grab cables. Open door, take panel off, superglue leather back, replace door handle, reassemble.

Heart attack diverted :)

That is probably the most ghetto worst way possible to solve the situation.

Oh is that so?

Alright genius what would you do?

And worst? How is separating the leather segment from the panel the worst thing you can do when its easy to reattach and shows no sign of removal?

So humor me, how would you unlock a door without handles, access to lock cables, and no ability to take the door panel off?

Mistakes happen but to me it sounds like you have absoluety no idea what your talking about.

why was the door not able to be opened from the outside? the outside door handles were removed as well?

ScraggleRock Aug 19, 2014 03:21 PM

I probably would have snapped it to a slim jim

The door lock was on and my door actuators are both toast so I couldn't use the remote to open the door, only way I could was through the cable.

Only reason this happened was because of a few bad circumstances and some neglect on my part. I should have used a zip tie to hold the cables but didn't and let the door close. So in short I messed up but fixed it in the most unnoticeable way I could see. Now its like nothing happened.

Snapped what to a slim Jim? The cables were in the bottom right corner you couldn't really get to it without risking damaging a wire harness in the process. Its a really tight space once the door panel is on the storage segments and Styrofoam support sits up against the metal panel so you can't get past them.

Meat snack

Just fish the cable out and pull on the cable to open the door from the inside..

Hard to go fishing for the cable if you can't see in the door. Almost like a blind man trying to cross the highway.

Hope that super glue holds up man and if you looking to fix that door lock actuator don't pay the dealer the 200 and change for one get a repair kit on ebay for 50 bucks here is a link to one of them. http://www.ebay.com/itm/281397111236...84.m1555.l2649
