Oil filter housing Gasket leak?

A few months back I took my car to have a quick inspection to see if anything was wrong (no particular reason just wanted to make sure everything was in good shape) and they had found only one issue which they had written down as a oil filter housing gasket leak. At the time it was only leaking a couple drops every few days but lately its been getting a lot worse and it is definitely time I fix it. I come into my garage after 3 days parking there in a row and everyday there is a new puddle of oil sitting on the ground. I did just get my oil changed too.
Is this a common problem for our G's? whats the cause of it and what is the cheapest option to go?

Are you sure you don't have two oil filter gaskets on your car?

My buddy had this happen on his G35. He took off his old oil filter and the ring gasket from his oil filter (Fram) came off and was stuck to the mounting surface where the filter touches and should seal. He didn't notice this and put on his new oil filter over the old gasket so there were two gaskets there and it was leaking a ton of oil.

This can happen if you are using a low quality oil filter and and don't work on cars enough to know to look for this and to clean the mating surface prior to installation of the new filter.

I believe this is what you are looking for. Make sure you buy the infiniti o-ring and not the Nissan, it is a different size, even though it has the same part number.

That could be the issue, I personally have never changed my own oil but perhaps the previous owner had done that. I guess Ill find out when I change it.

What a fugly mess!

Only oil filter gasket I know of is the one that comes on the oil filter! Like other members posted, "It's possible to have two on there when one get stuck!" You have a mess, you may as well do another oil change looking for that second gasket since you can't have much left! :icon43:
