Light Weight Pulleys

Unorthodox Racing Pulleys any thoughts are they worth it, Ill be doing a bigger throttle body soon...

Any Input? Concept Z has them for 330 with belts.

Well, if your looking to cut out weight off the engine that's a good start. I already have the light weight pulley from stillen and a carbin fiber driveshaft. The car revs up so much faster.

Lightweight pulleys are great. Just don't put one one your crank.

Why not on the crank?

Because the pulley is not always just a pulley. It's a harmonic balancer. It's weighted to balance the crankshaft. I had always wondered if our cranks were internally balanced or if that pulley is in fact a balancer.

+1, I've heard a lot of people having weird vibes and noise issues with using lightweight crank pulleys on these motors.

Back in the NA days I installed a non dampened crank pulley. I noticed a vibration in the 3500RPM region as I accelerated. Even if the crank is internally balanced which it most likely is, the dampening properties of the harmonic balancer are worth the added rotational weight. The moment of inertia of the pulley really isn't much comparing to lightening the clutch and flywheel. I=1/2MR^2

If you have an automatic, and you want it to be fast, turbocharge it or go home. It'll be slow no matter how much you dump into it without FI!!!

hopefully ill have the G supercharged, but I'm doing some other things to the car first not sure if I will forge the internals yet or just run low boost with the vortech v3.

Skip the TB, waste of $

VenomGT9 01-26-2016 07:16 AM

Look into the driveshaft as well

Hogbone 01-26-2016 09:00 AM

or do a FD ring and pinion swap

Do they have underdrive pulleys for the G?

I know that was a big mod for Mustangs. A set of lightweight pulleys, that slow down belt rotation as well. Really freed up enough HP you could actually feel it.

Granted, the reduced speed did cause issues like electrical power drain, and cooling issues. But hey, getting stranded on the side of the road at 3AM is well worth 5 HP. :)

Mine was UD. Fluidampr and Unorthodox Racing offer UD and stock diameter. I would go with Fluiddampr before UR because they still have dampening properties as opposed to just being properly balanced one piece aluminum.

I did not have any charging system issues, even with a sub and a kicker 500.1 amp.

EPiK 01-27-2016 12:27 AM

Yup they have them. AMS, with brand new OEM belts. Not a bad $100.00 (shipped). I'll keep a close watch on vibes if I install the crank pulley.
