Buying my pop's '03 G35- any right away mods worth doing?
 

My dad's '03 G35 coupe sport 6MT has been out in the weather since new- so the paint is a little rough and the rims are curbed, but it only has 40k miles on it.

He's done the aftermarket center instrument panel with dual-din kenwood and a K&N filter. That's it.

I don't know that much about these cars- but I'm pretty sure I want to upgrade to 2006 headlights. What about the 06 taillights? What other worthwhile mods are worth doing to a stock car? I'm not interested in lowering it- the roads here suck.

Definitely 06 lights and then motordyne spacer

If your cheap just do the motordyne spacer, the G feels much more like a performance car with this.

There are two "Upgrades" that make a major difference in the first gen G35, the '06 projector head lights and Motordynes 5/16" plenum spacer! For a couple more $$ you can change the sound by adding a z-tube. Since your G has been left outside :icon43: keep a close eye on belts and hoses, replace if they look worn. Paint, if it's not totally wasted go to www.griotsgarage.com and look into a buffer and other car care products to keep your new ride looking good! Surprise your Dad, after a little work you can tell him, "See this is what our car looks like now" and smile!

Adjustable sway bars

For sway bars to be effective you need to be lowered and include quality end links! He doesn't want to lower his G so there's $$ to be spent elsewhere that's far more effective!

End links...sure I can agree.
I wouldn't say lowering is "needed" for them but definitely enhances the gains...you can easily notice a difference with the sways alone. With the natural understeer of these cars, and a somewhat knowledgeable driver, sways can be effective in correcting the cornering habits.

Wow, it's an 03' and never been garaged? Curious about how it held up. What color is it and is it just faded or does it have rust in spots? I suppose if you live in California, rust is not likely but here in the Midwest, rusty cars are common unless they're garaged. My first car was a 71' Datsun 240Z and both rear wheel wells rusted just like every other Z rusted back then - they were notorious for this defect. Anyway, good luck and have fun.

+1 MD spacer. Engine damper is inexpensive & noticable but you can feel more vibration in the cabin. Wheels & tires are great +

It's in pretty good shape. Although it sits outside, he only drives it on nice days. His Jeep is the snow and rain driver. The sun killed the first 3M clear bra, so it was replaced a couple years ago along with new headlights (and they're yellow again).
