How many gallons to fill up y'alls gas tank?
 

Hey guys.

I would like to inquire on how many gallons of gas does your coupes takes to be filled up to a full tank?

The only reason I ask is because my car is throwing a P0462 code (fuel level sensor).

So basically, the fuel gauge would always show more than half full of tank gas when it's really not.

So what I've been doing is filling up my car for every 250 miles I drive (resetting the odometer) after filling up. The other day, I filled up my car @ 250 miles and the gas tank took 15.4 gallons.

What is the most gallons you guys were able to fill up? Thanks.

It's 20 gallons total and I get about 17-18 mpg on my 06 coupe. Usually around 250-300 miles I fill up and that's when the light would turn on (usually with about 4 gallons left). I've driven around on E and slightly below it without problems and end up usually filling with about 18 gallons.


You can try cleaning the sensor.

Clean sensor or replace. It should fix the problem.

There is a DIY instructional on here somewhere that details the process of cleaning the sensor which fixes this for most people. You have to remove the rear seat to get at it.

If I were to purchase a fuel sending unit/sensor ... are the parts for the driver side and passenger side different or are they both the same part? From my understanding, the one on the passenger side is attached to the fuel pump itself? Thanks in advance.

same here...about 18 gallons

I drive city alot so my fuel consumption is pretty shitty. I get about ~160-180 miles on a tank of gas driving city alone. on my trips from Houston to Dallas I get about 280 full tank. Refill hovers around 12-14 gallons

Even 280 miles isn't that good for a 12-14 gallon fill-up. Do you drive super aggressively all the time, or maybe have really big and heavy wheels/tires? 6MT or auto?

I've had my car since brand new in '04 and the worst fuel economy I've ever gotten out of a full tank was maybe just under 22 MPG. The best I ever got was around 29 MPG on a long road trip by myself of mostly highway driving where I was consciously trying to see what I could get for fuel economy on the second half of the trip, so I went about the speed limit most of the way and tried not to be too crazy aggressive with the acceleration.

I never drive agressive. I recently just purchased this gem a couple months ago. its a 2004 6MT with 57,000 miles. My job is literally down the street and so my commute is NEVER bad. However, driving around the area which is about 5 mile radius always seems to down my tank, and fast too. I don't race or anything like that, just daily driven. Stock 7 spoke wheels with 225 in the front and i think to 285 in the rear? I'd have to check but yeah I thought all G's had the issue of going through fuel super fast. I always pump supreme as well. :dunno::dunno::dunno:

Stock tires are 225/40/18 up front and 245/45/18 in the rear. You basically have the exact same car as me assuming your mention of 285's in the rear was not true. Mine is also an '04 6MT with about 53K miles on it and stock sized tires.

Short drives aren't the best for fuel economy... more so in cold weather, because the car is the least efficient when it's warming up both in terms of fluid resistance as well as the car running richer until it reaches a certain temperature.

I have a short commute to work as well (6.5 miles each way), but it's not really much stop and go... mostly just go, and about 1/2 of that commute is highway.

What's your usual shifting RPM range in casual driving? Tire pressure set to 35 all around?

But different question, have you guys ever put non premium gas in your cars? Ive never put in anything but 93, would it be a bad idea to put 87 in?

I do about 10.5L/100km mixed city/highway on an 03 Coupe 6MT with 63,000km on it, summer driven only, bone stock, normal driving not aggressive. Rarely let my cars run low on fuel as some cars use the fuel to cool the pump, so I always fill with just under 1/4 tank. Most I've ever put in was 62 liters and I always stop when the gas pump cuts out. Never top up after the cutoff.

I wish more people did the same. Manufacturers should put stickers on the inside of the gas tank doors telling people not to top off their tank when filling after it auto shuts off. Most people have no idea that it's bad for the EVAP system... and not just a little bad... pretty much horribly bad and can lead to very expensive replacement of parts designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle in normal use situations.

It always amazes me how sometimes even "car guys" top off beyond the normal fill range. This is one of those hidden gotchas that can kill you when buying a used car from a person who doesn't know cars but otherwise tries to keep up on maintenance.
