Passenger Window Motor Won't Budge!
 

Hi guys,

This is my first post in these forums. I just recently traded my GTI for a G35!
The issue im experiencing isn't like any that ive read about online. My passenger window won't roll up or down with either side (driver/passenger) switch, I took out the motor and tested it on the drivers side and it works!! What could be the cause of this?

Things I've tried:
-Purchasing a new motor
-Reseting the windows
-Hard reseting the car (positive wire on battery to negative)
-Disassembling the connector and connecting each individual wire to designated connection on motor

Any help is appreciated!

check your window regulator. chances are somethings broken and it isn't allowing the window motors to move

Can you hear the motor operating?
My passenger side motor has a broken gear inside.
Motor works and regulator is fine but the busted gear wont pull the window cable

Have you tried using the FSM for troubleshooting?

Have you used a voltmeter to check for blown fuses?

I've tested the motor while disconnected from the regulator. On the drivers side it works and on the passenger side nothing.

Which fuses would i be checking? There are said to be none for the windows

Take the motor off and try moving the window by hand and see if it binds or gives resistance.

It is pretty difficult to move the window up and down by hand...but i dont see why that would effect the actual motor from not receiving any power?

I know this is a stupid question but do you have the window lock on the driver master switch pressed in by chance?

Your window sits on a regulator, which is basically just a pulley system that moves it up and down. If it's really hard to move or doesn't go at all then that's probably the problem...

I've replaced three of them on my Audi.

yes but how would that effect the motor when its not connected to the regulator? Im thinking it has to be something with the wiring in the connection for the motor itself

You said in your post the motor worked on the driver's side correct? So, that shows the motor is still good. It doesn't move from either the master or passenger switch. I don't have a wiring diagram in front of me, but I highly doubt both switches are wired in series or bad at the same time.

Have you tried just unscrewing the motor from the passenger side and press the button to see if the motor moves, while it's still plugged in?

If all the above checks out it's either a window regulator, something on the window track, some kind of fuse/relay, or possibly a shorted out wire. But, since you stated yourself that it's hard to move the window with the motor out, I'd lean towards the regulator or something with the window itself. You should be able to move a window up/down pretty freely/easy when the motor is disconnected.

No the motor literally WILL NOT move or make any noises...as if it is not getting any power, even when disconnected from the regulator and plugged in (from either switch)......BUT when connected to the drivers door connection the motor works just fine

I was looking at the wiring diagram and the FSM it's appears it could also be one of the three: BCM, passenger window switch, or the wiring/harness.

It looks like that no matter whether you activate the switch from the driver or passenger side it still goes through the passenger side switch. I'd inspect the wiring or try replacing that switch first if you can find a cheap used one. Do the door locks and all that other stuff work?

The door locks do work from the switch and the wiring up until it goes into the door looks fine too. Im going to try to find a cheap switch to test out before anything. Hope its not my BCM
