OEM Exhaust
 

Hello. Long time browser, first time poster.

I searched all over Google and this site before posting but no luck.

My stock exhaust is in need of replacement - the flange (?) between the muffler and mid-pipe (?) has deteriorated. Forgive me if my terminology is inaccurate.

I would really like to replace it with a new OEM system (just the two sections) but can't find one anywhere. Are they still produced? Are replicas available? Is it possible to properly fix the connection? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

you could have a muffler shop sort it out but OEM systems are always coming up for sale.

Thanks for the response! I am located just outside of DC. I will consult a muffler shop. I am just afraid that it's beyond repair.

A quality muffler shop should be able to weld in whatever your exhaust system needs! If your entire system is shot, Magnaflow makes a y-back system that's the perfect replacement for your OE exhaust! Sound change is minimal and it will last for as long as you own your G!

I have a OEM exhaust for sale. It's from the cat-back.

They sell flange repair kits that work well as a permanent repair. You can get them at Advance Auto for like $20 and do the repair yourself. I have one in my Tacoma and it's been great for the past 4+ years.

Generally, an Infiniti dealer is a good place to search for Infiniti parts. I have a hard time believing that you searched all over google and couldn't find anywhere to purchase replacement exhaust parts for your car.

Purchasing new from a dealer will be expensive - used parts would make more sense if they're in good condition.

That's the Walker kit with a 2.5" Diameter pipe, which Is what I think we need. You'd want to get under there and verify that the pipe near the flange is 2.5" to be safe.

I tried to repair mine with the Walker flange repair kit. It's mechanically fastened but leaks more than I'd like. The problem with that kit is the replacement flanges do not mate flush together so you can't get the gasket to seal the connection like oem. I watched a video of someone repairing their G with this kit and don't know how they got it to seal. The mating surfaces of the pipes that are left after your oem flange rusts off completely just don't leave any way to seal the joint. I tried to hack some gaskets in there but had no luck. It's barely acceptable now. Only a little embarrassing when I'm around car people.

With that flange kit and various gaskets I probably spent $40 and ended up with so so results. Shops around here would probably charge $80-100 and it would be solid. This thread covers it pretty well:

I stacked washers as spacers between the two halves of the kit to get the appropriate width so that it matches up with the width of the flange on the other pipe. You probably need a new gasket too if the original one has been exposed to the elements via the leak. I'm not sure what type if gasket our cars use because I haven't taken mine off ever. I'm assuming it's the typical aluminum framed paper-like gasket, but sometimes they use a weird hardened rubbery plastic insert that can be reused.

After calling around a little bit, I was able to find a shop that cut out the bad section and replace it with a metal sleeve. Good as new...and only $123. How I missed the exhaust sound!

I found that site in my searching but the parts looked much more expensive than I had expected.
