Headlight cleaning...??
2005 G35 coupe , 70k miles
I'm sort of getting tired of cleaning my factory head lights, the typical issue of oxidation and looking like s##t.. Any of you find any new techniques to clean ? Would love to just replace them but low on funds... Thanks |
Not sure there are new techniques, what worked for me is a 3M kit attached to my drill. KSealing them or having them clear coated is key to keeping them from oxidized as quickly.
If I had to do it over again, I would have paid for a shop to do it. But honestly it isn't that difficult to do. Takes maybe 30 to 45 minutes per side. Search the forum, there are tons of threads on it. |
If you have a quality body shop you're using or know of, they will clean and clear coat your headlight covers! If you wish to do it yourself, 3M makes the very best kit you can buy! There is no inexpensive way to diy that lasts without spending a few $$...Gary

Gotta clearcoat.

Yep, the clear coat will protect the polycarbonate lens from further UV damage. If you don't then prepare to go through the sanding process again Soon™

Have a paint shop do it or pick up some clear coat from a paint store and a cheap harbor freight purple gun. They're so cheap I thew mine out after using it, but they're good guns. I don't think anything out of an aerosol can will give you long lasting results. Just had my car resprayed and had them do the headlights too. I should have some before and after picks i'll try to post. One of my headlights was so bad it was embarrassing.

Wow, that wasn't a replacement lens?

same headlight, same lens. Should make the original poster feel better about his lol
I wish they sold the lens by itself. |
I've picked up some SprayMax 3680061, Aerosol 2K Urethane Clear Coat to clear my headlights. Pretty good stuff for a spray clear. I've used it on a few bumpers in the past and seems to be hold up. Now just need a free weekend to do it.
