sat radio woes
Tried and failed to install satellite radio in my 2006 coupe. I tried 2 different 999U9NV004 Nissan satellite radio modules.
The first one I tried actually worked. It worked for about 15 minutes. Then it started cutting out and then all I could get was "no signal" status after that. The 2nd module I tried would not even "activate". All I got period was "no signal" status. I tried 2 different antennas from my other cars to no avail. Sometimes I can get it to say "antenna" on the display but then it just goes back to "no signal". Any ideas on this or am I just not gonna be able to enjoy sat radio in this car? |
What kind of antenna are you using? If it's a modern mini antenna, you might need a FAKRA adapter:
I suspect that you are not getting a good connection to the antenna...the mini-antenna plug is too short to work with the old tuner connections. Depending on what you are trying to do, you also need to pay attention to whether you have a Sirius or XM piece of equipment. That part number looks like an XM tuner. For that ancient unit, you are also going to need a splitter to make use of the (out in the country) satellite signal and (urban) radio signals that the antenna is picking up. Also, recognize that those old units do not have any memory in them to buffer the incoming data, so it's going to drop out when you go under bridges, behind tree copses, and into tunnels.... |
Yes, I was using both a 2to1 adapter (terrestrial/sat) AND a Fakra connector. This was then hooked up to a standard sat car antenna. Like I said, I also tried a few different antennas from my other cars.
Really very frustrating. I spent $150 on parts to make this happen. Fail. |
Hmmm. Well then that is very mysterious. I installed a NOS 999U9NV003 in my prevous 2006 sedan and it was fine.

Is everything else about the head unit working OK? We both know how flaky those units are. When I do the coupe, I'm going the DDin route; already have the JDM face plate. Time to modernize, especially realizing that the investment in legacy satellite system might be voided when the head unit inevitably tanks.

It is possible that I received 2 bad modules, but unlikely. Who knows. Gonna go a much more low-tech route and just get an FM modulator. At least I know that will work and I already have an XM car kit from my old car.
