dome light help needed

I have the g35 04' coupe -
So , i have the headliner down and all clips disconnected. which section in the service manuals could i find the harness info - for the DOME LIGHT, SUN ROOF, Visor wires in this particular harness?
The clip to the DOME light has 5 wires in it - i am trying to find out which color wire runs which function here.

*Ultimately i am removing the sun roof and have built my own headliner. I am now trying to get the NEW domelight to operate with the door opening.

I am as far getting the light power on but can not seem to get light to turn off after the door is closed. any suggestions?

When the door is closed a 12V signal is either given or cut off by the door switches. One of those wires will be changing in charge relative to the ground, you need to find that wire (with a multimeter) and make sure its hooked up right

yes- i was hoping there was a diagram that showed what each color wire was functioning in the roof.

I have a multimeter and a test light available. . . .. turned to 12 volt. one prong on the known hot wire and other going around to other wires,
i have cashed sparks and also caused popped fuse several times with no real result.

open to ideas. Than you!

i can get the light to do everything but shut itself off after a min of rest with all the doors closed. This is my goal. . . .. I AM ASSUMING THAT IS WHAT THE original FUNCTION WAS IN ALL COUPES??
Auto dim-out after alotted time right??

I'll play with mine tomorrow and get back to you

Yes, the dome light will stay on for one minute after the door is closed.

If u want to turn it off right away, press the lock button on your remote.

The proper way to use a test light. One end on a known good ground. The other end you probe the wires looking for 12volts. If you are looking for a ground. One end of ohmmeter on a good ground. The other end probe the wires looking for a ground. Ohmmeter will go to zero for a ground. The way you are doing it is incorrect and will start a fire and damage components.

Yup, better to use a multimeter to avoid problems like that.

This may be too obvious but don't you have a switch on the dome light assembly? It toggles between always on, always off and auto shut off in the sedans.

It's all controlled by the BCM, not just traditional switching.

Might be a little different on the sedan but that should give you a good idea how the map lamp integrates.
