Door card trim peeling off
 

Is this a common issue? When I got the car the rear, passenger side trim was coming loose. Dealer said they fixed it but did a somewhat arse job. Now the driver side rear is coming loose too, seems like should be able to peel the whole thing off with any damage or residue. So for the fix, any suitable glue or better method to replace it?

What exactly is peeling off, a picture would help. Not sure if it's something lost in translation but I have no idea what a "door card" is. There's quite a few interior soft-touch pieces like the door panel, steering wheel, etc that end up peeling back and contact adhesive is usually the fix.

Just remove the component and tape off everything else so you don't overspray contact adhesive on everything. Steering wheel pieces lifting up I just used superglue. There was a user that preventatively used some auto accent trim to keep the edges from lifting.

Yep it's a common problem, especially for those of us in warmer climates. I used a 3M Ultra Adhesive spray, don't remember the exact name, and it's held up for a few years now. I didn't peel the whole leather cover for fear I would jack it up, I pulled as much down as was loose, sprayed the adhesive, slowly pushed it back from the bottom up, used a credit card to push the top underneath the trim and used painter's tape to hold it while the glue set. I pulled off the tape too early on the driver's door so left it longer on the passenger, did them on 2 separate days. Driver's door leather pulled out from under the trim a bit but was stuck tight so I just left it with a small gap. Thought about peeling it off again but that sh!t was stuck on tightly so I just left it.

There is also a recent thread on here where someone bought trim strips to push between the top of the leather and the plastic door liner to give it a more finished look and hold the leather in. Might have been in the coupe forum but if I had to do this again I would go that route. It looked great.

I have no idea where that post was, I tried looking for it too but I ended up buying this stuff on Amazon. It's a real pain to install but looks good if you take your time and should prevent it from peeling again in The Future™

Thanks guys. Yeah I don't know the exact name of the piece in question but from my old Mitsubishi FTO car club they were referred to as door cards. Will look into that link now and search out some glue! New Zealand isn't the warmest climate but can get hot enough to somewhat make the dash very soft and sticky which is a pain in the arse.
