Stillen Hi-Flow Airbox'ers....enter...

I'm looking at doing a custom setup, but I need to know what the Stillen Hi-Flow Airbox is comprised of...

Any close up pics of how it all attached together? I assume the MAF bolts up to the heatshield box, and theres some sort of tube they give you to attach the cone filter to the maf?? Not sure...

Also, how hard to you think it would be to change out the filter?

Thanks a ton guys.

As long as the filter is a conical design and is similar in size it shouldn't be a problem. If its larger or differently shaped you may run into problems because there's not a ton of extra space in the box. Here ya go:

Stillen deliveres a special ring (they have some "cool" marketing name for it ;) ) that goes inside the cone and has the bolt holes in the same pattern as the MAF housing. Than the MAF is attached through the box wall to the ring. You even re-use the original bolts that attached the MAF housing to the stock box previously.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for.

I went ahead and bought one anyways :)

Pity, I live so far away. I would be happy to sell you mine :) I simply hate the whistle at mid throttle, but I think it's a question of the cone. Maybe I'll go with your idea and replace the filter with different one using the Stillen ring.

I think it's the "velocity ring" as they call it that's responsible for the whistle.... they've descibed it has having the ability to shape the airflow going into the tube once it's passed through the filter.

Exactly, I meant this cool marketing name :) You think it's true what they say about the ring (shaping airflow)? I'm not sure. It looks more like a adapter to the stock MAF housing and they just say it has some special properties so that it seems that they've put some own know-how in the design.

Because let's face it, apart from the ring they are selling a K&N cone (mine already had a K&N logo on it instead of Stillen as on some earlier photos) and a emptied imitation of the stock plastic box.

But if it's really the ring that makes the whistle, I'll try to get rid of it.

Do I buy into their advertising claims? Not sure, either. Biggest reason I picked it up was because of a similarly designed product I had on my previous car from K&N (conincal filter on my '97GT) that provided a noticible bump when at speed.

Agreed about the whistle... I could do without it. I'm pretty sure that the filter itself isn't the cause of it, though.

I'm not going to use the "velocity cone".....but man, the filter it comes with is HUGE

*edit* ps I bought it used from a local member

Eddie23 Mar 22, 2005 11:25 AM

madchef, let us know how you solve it. An option without the ring would be interesting for me.

Will do....not sure when I'll have it all in my hands. Hopefully in a week or two.
