I've just discovered the greatest thing about the G35

You can leave the car in 1st gear and give it no gas and it will still keep going, its not like my old car where you keep on needing to press the gas so it wont stall, as long as you gave that push and i guess the engine just does the job for you so it makes traffic 100 times easier, Damn I love this car

aerisolphaln Mar 21, 2005 10:56 PM

Yeah, but is it good for the tranny?

mrb Mar 21, 2005 11:14 PM

I thought the best part of the car was the pantydropping effect?

lexicon Mar 21, 2005 11:26 PM

I don't know what is funnier.

Guys buying cars to get girls.

Or the Girls being dumb enough to go for a guy because of a car.

LOL, either way I guess we both win. A cool car and some pantydroppers (thanks mrb)!

well my prelude didnt do that

IS300TOG35 Mar 22, 2005 12:43 AM

holy shi* ill be trying that in the morning. So if I let the clutch out and roll in first after I gave it the initial gas, your saying i dont have to keep giving it gas for it not to stall? How fast does the car move when you do that?

kenchan Mar 22, 2005 12:51 AM

better yet, while crawling in traffic press the lever gently against 1st gear's
gate without the clutch and watch it slip into gear while it rolls. this way
you don't wearout your throwout bearing or your left foot. :) You can get
the car out of gear without the clutch with slight tap on the gas and pull
gently towards neutral. these aren't any new tricks, btw.

Finiti35 Mar 22, 2005 12:53 AM

Hahaha, I discovered that a while ago when I was learning stick and thought it was something unique but then I asked around and it turned out that other cars do it too. You don't even need to give it any initial gas, just let out the clutch slowly and the car will start rolling.

And that's completely harmless? I'll try it tomorrow.

If you are rolling in 1st gear and no throttle, and then brake to a stop, will your engine stall? I have a 5AT sedan loaner until tomorrow so somebody try this and see what happens, please.

As for shifting w/out the clutch, if you are driving and want to pop it into neutral, right when you let off the throttle (the tranny is not loaded), press on the shift lever and it should pop out of gear w/ very little resistance. If it has resistance, don't do it. If you want to upshift w/out the clutch, it is trickier but doable. You need to accelerate, do the trick above to go into neutral, then you need to pop it into the next gear at the right RPM. This is rev matching.

Gee Im Fast Mar 22, 2005 02:33 AM

All cars do it...even my 00 civic. Some cars need to let off VERY VERY slowly.

But the best thing was said before, the panty dropping affect.

I second that, also cuz I got a AT haha

MrCrazy Mar 22, 2005 03:18 AM

Hell, I use to do that in an '81 civic (didn't do the panty dropping thing well though...)

I was taught how to find the friction point in driving school. (The car I used for drivers training had a manual transmission.)
