I'm in the middle of a complete sound deadening project using B-Quiet products (ultimate and Lcomp.) I'm doing the trunk, complete interior floor and door panels.

I've taken sound measurements before the project with my SPL meter and I will take measurements afterwards as well.

I'll post the results and also add some pictures to augment the already great DIY threads on this subject.

I'm praying that it all goes back together properly and that there are no leftover screws or plastic bits.

BTW, I disconnected the connector below incorrectly and need to rewire it. I pulled the wrong end off and all the wires came loose from the connector. Note to future DIY's - disconnect the battery before you try this or you may blow a fuse ;)

If you have the pdf of the wiring diagram (by wire color) for this connector and could email it, I would be grateful. This is the connector under the passenger seat.

PM if you can, otherwise, I'll buy the service manual. (maybe someone could tell me if this info is in the sm?) Of course the wires on the driver side connector are different colors so no help there :(

Yes, I agree. You should see the interior now - ouch.

BTW, after you start to take all the pieces off, you don't appreciate the car as much. It's so much molded plastic - seems quite cheap.

what material are you using for sound deadening?

B-Quite Ultimate (100 s.f.) and Lcomp (2 boxes.) I did a lot of research and this looked like a good product. Plus the guys at B-Quiet are very helpful and friendly.

I'm interested in taking on a similar project in my other car a first gen Mazda Miata.. I've read so much and heard so many different opinions its hard to know really whats best. But it seems like shooter has a pretty good formula for it.

this is the stuff i think i'm going to use as a dynamat type alternative (just to stop vibrations) and the Lcomp looks like it might work well to absorb the sound. I may try to find a cheaper alternative though.

I agree that there are so many different opinions and products to consider. I even considered stormguard which you can pick up at home depot for under 50 cents per s.f. But further searching turned up some not-so-good reviews for that type of product.

In the end I decided that the labor was going to be tough and I only wanted to disassemble the car once so I opted to spend a little more for a better product.

I'll know the results in a week and post them.

I did the outer skin behind the panel on the rear quarter as well.

Did the door panel remove easily? I did not try that yet. I assume the window mechanism was not attached to that removable door panel? And I assume you started with the window up?

And 7db is great. (I also measured 75db A-weighted on a particular stretch of asphalt at 75mph.) My goal is 10-12db reduction. I am using quite a lot more material than you did. It will add about 60 lb total - but the noise reduction is more important to me than the slight acceleration loss due to this added weight.

the window mechanism is attached to the door access panel.......i dont remember finding a DIY on the removal of the access panel.......i just took my time......it wasnt that hard........you can use the attached picture to locate the attachment points.....and yes the window is up :)

Thanks Shooter. I got the door inner door panel off. It was a bit tricky. Your pics helped.

12bd may be aggressive - but the very helpful fellow at B-Quiet said it was possible and that well within reason.

I bought this G after having a Mercedes E430 and Lexus LS400 and I quickly noticed the road noise difference. I test drove the car with 17s and 18s and the 17s were definately more quiet - but they didn't look as good.

If I get even 9-10db I'll be very happy.

I did the same thing in my coupe - with the same products.
I haven'tdone the doors yet.

As to the seat connector/rewire... if you did that without disconnecting the battery just be glad you didn't blow the air bag. They are pretty serious in the manual about removing the neg then the pos battery terminal THEN WAIT A MIN of 3 MINS before disconnecting eat connectors.

As to putting it back, the wire colors should match the colors on the mating connector.
Verify that, and then use it as a guide MAKING VERY SURE you have it right before applying power.

Looks like quite a project, but should be well worth it in the end :)

I am seriously considering taking on this project myself this summer. I'm just trying to build up the motivation to do a complete tear down and rebuild. I'm imagining that this is going to be extremely labor intensive.

The reduced road noise and improved acoustics would be fantastic though...

If you could, when you are done, give us an estimate of your labor and materials. If I could have this done in 3 or less days and in at a reasonable cost, I'd probably take this project on.
