Intake installed, Should I reset my ECU?
 

Hey Guys. I just purchased a Nismo Cold Air intake. Shoud I reset my ECu after I have completed the install?? Thx for your help.

I'd say go ahead and do it. Its a relatively quick, simple process and it will help the ECU adjust properly to the new intake. Just for FYI, after the reset its going to take the ECU some time to fully compensate with the new addition and reset, maybe a week or so and some good WOT runs.

Yup, do it, ECU relearns a/f and other sorts of things.

actually its not necessary, the ECU every so often adapts and adjugs the a/f and relearns everything by itself. i had many mods on my car and i can always tell that the ecu was adapting to the mods. unless your doing some MAJOR stuff i dont think you have to. its just an intake.

Yeah, the ECU automatically relearns eventaully, according to your driving habits.

when you say "MAJOR stuff", what do you mean, exactly?... i mean, at what point is it not enough to let it re-learn?

im assuming if you have headers, cats, intake, exhaust, plenum and all this air flow, it would be best to reset it so the ECU starts from scratch. if you were to let it re-learn, it would take much longer. but if its just exhaust and intake, its really not necessary

Thanks guys i recently install Injen SP1998 short RAM intake and really like it,sound awesome plus faster throttle response and slightly increase MPG and i think i let my car ECU just relearn itself,i know its would take some time but i dont mind that.By the way i own 2008 Infiniti G35 sedan Journey with premium package.Yeah i forgot to mentioned that i have installed axle back Tanabe medallion exhaust and with new intake i have really nice sound!

Most manufactures of intakes and plenum spacers recommends you remove the negative side of the batter while installing their products. It's like a wake up call for your ECU that there's something new to learn and adjust to...Gary

Record radio setting BEFORE disconnecting the battery
 

I know this may sound obvious but do record all of your radio stations BEFORE you disconnect the battery to trigger an ECU reset. How many times has your car comeback from with shop with all of the stations missing because they had to disconnect the battery to work on it and you could not remember your programmed station settings ? :icon43:

I Installed a k&n short ram intake on my 04 coupe. For the first and second gas tank, it did about 420 miles a tank. Now i'm back to 200 miles a tank. I don't know if the computer "relearned" the bad drinking habit or if there is seriously something wrong with my car. Driving habits are exactly the same as when I made 420 miles per tank.
