6MT's in your area
I am curious to know why not very many people order G35 manuals. This may not be the place to ask because we are obviously the die hard G35 owners who love our cars (most of us anyway), and most on this board have 6MT's, but I have to say I have only seen about 5 manuals since i have been watching G35's (which has been since 2003). Now 2005's are harder to tell because they dont have brembos (but I have only seen 2 2005's here), and I am like the only one in St. Louis with a 6MT. St. Louis is not a small place either...just curious as to why I dont see more 6MT's. The only reason i can think of is the targeted audience...people that want manuals and can afford this car get the Nissan "sports car" version, the 350z. No offence to Z owners, but I wouldn't be caught dead in a 350z--I test drove the 350z and the G35, and you see so many damn Z's here and the G is so much nicer (IMO, especially with the brembos, thank god i got a 2004.5). Also, with just a few mods to my engine, my G is faster than any stock Z around (which most here are stock). Anyway, I guess I am just surprised that I dont see any 6MT's, feels like a waste to have a sports car and not have a manual. Just my thoughts though...are there a lot of 6MT's where you live?

There are very few 6MT's here as well. Its probably a combination of the fact that the majority of American's don't know how to drive standard and that Infiniti has always aimed their vehicles towards an older crowd (many which want more luxury, ie automatics),

A TON. Downtown Fort Lauderdale, you see more Brembos than anything. I am quite shocked myself since I never noticed that trend up until a couple of months ago. I see a good 8-10 coupes a day and in most cases when it's an automatic it's usually a chick driving it (only seen 2 girls driving a 6MT).
You see more manual 350z's than G35 coupes for the same reason you see more modified 350z's than G35s. You said it, it's the targeted audience. |
Automatic transmissions will always sell better than standards. The majority of people don't like the hassles of driving a manual in traffic. That and automatics have gotten quite good. Personally if I was building / buying a car specifically for sport (road, drag X racing) I would always go with the manual, but it is so nice to have an auto when sitting in traffic. This car is the first auto I ahve ever had in a car. I honestly miss the thrill of a manual for the few times I get to turn the car on, but for every day cruising I prefer an auto.

Yeah, i guess so. I get sooooooooooo much attention in my car, just because there are so few around. Its funny too, cause I live in one of the "better off" places in St. Louis, where every other car is a mercedes. But yes to what you said, almost every Z i see (95%) is stick, but they are rarely modded (unless its under the hood), but I doubt it.

Also another question...do you wave whenever you see someone else driving a G coupe? Since there are so few around here, I always wave and smile and most of the time, they do too. Kind of a dumb question but just wondering.

According to Infiniti inventory, only 7-13% of coupes in the 6 Chicago dealerships are manual. I always thought it was more like 1 in 3.

In my area (a relatively upscale part of Kansas) there are a lot of G35 sedan/coupes. Albeit you see BMW 3 series like five times as much, I've personally seen about 15 or so G's with the brembos. I've only seen 2-3 of the new coupes with 19s and I can't tell on those.. I don't usually wave because most G coupe owners in my area are old guys. Once I waved and the guy was a prick and just glared at me.

I always wave, but most Gs I see around here are driven by older people who arent true enthusiasts. Ive only seen one other black coupe in my town and he glared at me when I said hi at the gas station.

Ive yet to encounter a 6MT myself here in chi-town... my hobby is to enjoy
motoring so got the 6MT, but if i wanted something for the commute i'd gotten the AT. |
There's maybe a dozen Coupes here now and most are auto's.
