Clutch didn't engage?? is this bad?
Ok, so I was showing off and decided to do something which I wouldn't normally do. My car has about 1200 miles and I decided to do a 180 burnout and lauch. I stopped, then pulled my 180 in 1st gear and then as I came up on 6900rpms I launched into second gear. My only problem is that the engine just reved and something started to stink (the clutch). I was fully engaged in 2nd gear but the car wasn't going anywhere and my rpms were shooting up to 6.5k quickly, almost as if i was in neutral. After about 2 seconds I puched the clutch back in and re-engaged the car into 2nd and took off again. I am an excellent driver so I know that this was not driver error (although, I am not Michael Schmaucker). Also note that VDC was off...
My question to you guys is, how bad is this? Should I take it back to the dealership and ask them to look at the cluch? This 05 coupe is my baby and this really freaked me out? How much life did I just burn off of my clutch? Why didn't the cluch engage? Thanks for the insite: |
If it's your baby then quit treating it like it's your b1tch! :D

Not sure if our cars can handle such abuse in stock form.

Yes, it is my "baby" but that doesn't mean that I can not drive it like a sports car once in a blue moon. Anyway, it was a burnt cluch smell, not rubber. And, the thing that scared me was that the clutch was fully engaged in second gear and the engine reved like the car was in neutral. I didn't think that was normal so I thought I would post for suggestions as to if this is something that I should really worry about with the car only having 1300 miles AND if maybe this is a common problem or has happened to anyone else??
Also, I remember my foot was 100% off of the clutch pedal but it was still stuck in about 50% of the way? Why would this of happened? |
Your clutch was getting fried.

You really think that I need a new clutch after 1300 miles? |
Not unless your stick shift feels wierd and clutch isnt acting right and your hearing excessive sound...man...my worries would be how much youll be spendin on tires :D
Your car is fine if you can still drive and dont experience anything that I have mentioned. |
I had the same thing happen to me and was worried as well. I was just driving straight on an open road after it had sprinkled so I wouldn't mess up the tires as much on a nice glazed surface. I know how to drive a manual just fine, so I wonder if something is wrong for us with the new setup in the 05's. I never had this problem in my 04 coupe.
Anymore 2005 G35 Coupe 6spds experiencing this?? |
I had an incident like that also. It seems like if you have your foot on the gas and release the clutch, the clutch doesnt grip right and you smell that terrible clutch smell.

I think that I am going to drive it for a week or so and see if it happens again. If it does, im taking it back to the dealership. |
im sure it will be ok, mine is ok. But there is definetly something odd about this clutch. Ive driven manuals for about 15 years now and ive never experienced anything like this before.

You missed second and took a few years of wear off your clutch. LMAO. What did you expect? I bet whoever you were showing off for was, like, the most impressed everrrrrrr! Keep it up. Eventually your clutch won't work at all and the rest of us will be safe from your idiocy. I think that I am going to drive it for a week or so and see if it happens again. Geewilli, come on.. it's his car, not yours. So let him do whatever he wants to do with his car...
