05 6MT and Snow

Couple of questions:

1. Has anyone driven the 05 6MT in snow?
2. What tires did you use and estimate cost?
3. Can I let my car sit outside (covered) in cold snowy weather with stock summer tires? (I have no temperature controled garage and I am not sure how the cold temp. will affect my tires)

Thanks

i drove in snow. absolutely no problems. bought the following for 1850$cdn:
17x7 Impact Silver
225/50/17 Pirelli W210
225/55/17 Pirelli W210

not sure if cold weather will affect the summer tires. maybe someone else can tell u if it would result in cracking or other wear. if your in a winter climate and your buying this car i would suggest getting the winter set-up.

 Man, is that what I'm expected to pay for a set of Winter Rims/Rubber? (I'm in Toronto area too)! Do you have any pictures or recommendations on where to get 'em? I know it's early, but just so that I'll have an idea!

I bought my 05 6MT based on feedback I had gotten locally and from Freshalloy that indicated with snow tires the car should be fine for an all year round vehicle. I then contaced Tire Rack to get an estimate of what they had for the car. The guy I spoke too confirmed that it runs fine in the snow with snows, however, being summer they have none in stock to offer a quote. He did say that I should anticipate spending $1000-$1500 on a 17" wheel/tire package for it.

Thanks for the tip on the tires and wheels, where did you get them?

if u think that's expensive... then u haven't shopped around for rims and tires lately. contact harry @ bigwheelz.com. best prices imo. ask others in the canadian forums section if u don't believe me. otherwise go to the dealer and pay their 2800$cdn plus taxes.

What if I just leave my car outside in cold weather and not drive it at all ... Will this mess my stock summer tires?

lightforce18 06-09-2005 03:57 PM

What would happen if you drove your g35 in winter with the stock 19's?

waterp7 06-09-2005 04:02 PM

On snow you would have loads of fun trying to keep the car straight even with VDC.

I had to drive a couple months ago with my summer rubber on. I parked, and when I came back out, there was an inch of snow on the ground. I couldn't get out of my parking spot.

lightforce18 06-09-2005 04:48 PM

so basically you cannot drive the g35 in snow if you keep the stock tires?

RDaneel 06-09-2005 05:05 PM

According to the forum, it isn't easy, lightforce... even a gently sloped driveway can be tough.

The summer compound rubber loses its flexibility, and the wide tire is terrible at clearing out snow, and the tread pattern is lousy at digging down into snow...

lightforce18 06-09-2005 05:09 PM

I am not a big fan of switching tires. But if I get a G I guess I will have to buy some winter 17's then huh?

RDaneel 06-09-2005 05:10 PM

That's what I'm doing... winter 17's are a good way to make the care a year-round toy!

lightforce18 06-09-2005 05:14 PM

how much will a set of cheap winter 17s go for from a place like national tire and battery.

When I had my 300ZX and drove it year round I put blizzaks on the back only, and swapped tires each winter/spring. I wouldn't do that agian because all the on and off really destroys the tire in a hurry. This time I'm getting snows mounted on wheels and I'll put them on/off myself. The savings of mounting and unmounting 4 tires twice a year should pay for the wheels pretty quickly.

I was also told by the tire rack guy that they don't make 19" snows - so another reason for wheels.
