G35 Coupe Auto Tranny 0-60?
 

Hi, I recently bought a G35 Coupe Automatic transmission. I've been trying to find track information for the car, but I've only been able to find Manual tranny info. Can anybody tell me how fast it is 0-60 mph with auto transmission. Thnx

the 0-60 time should be slower than the manual coupe, but a little faster than the sedan because of the extra 20 horsies, also.. the coupe is slightly heavier so logic tells me that the 0-60 time should be closer to that of the sedan than to the manual coupe

sedan= 6.51 s
6MT coupe= 5.83 s
Auto coupe will probably be ~6.3, if you want to test it yourself, you'll have to use the manu-matic mode on your tranny and if you really wanna get under 6.5 seconds... then your gonna have to use the common brake trick that is used on automatics......press the brake all the way while you are standing still, put it in first gear in manu-matic mode, then press the gas slightly while pressing on the brakes at the same time, get to like 3,000 rpm and then let her loose :)

I commonly only use automatic and not the manumatic. I tried it a few times on the G35c, but it is pretty damn slow, probably slower than Mbenz's tiptronic. Wouldn't it be better to use automatic tho because it shifts at redline on each gear anyways and probably a lot better timed than the manumatic if one were to do it himself. Also, i've heard of the technique of brake torquing, but wouldn't it be better to put in neutral and rev up to peak torque, 4800 rpm, then shift into drive as stick shift drivers do. Theoretically, this would provide the same result, unless the automatic gear shifting sucks that much. Thanx

i see what you mean, i dont recommend doing a neutral drop, thats really bad for the transmission, or so i've heard...brake torquing is the way to go, as for using the auto to shift at redline, you are right, if the auto shifts at redline then thats a good thing, as far as the manu-matic being slow, you are exactly right, that is the impression i got too when i first drove it, my bro has a 2002 benz and his is alot faster shifting than the g35 manumatic... anyway...the #'s i posted above for the G sedan are for the automatic using brake torqueing to start out...they are straight from Motortrend.

That is a good way of ensuring a short life-expectancy of your transmission. AT doesn't have clutch to soften the shock to the drivetrain from this action..

OTOH, i think you are right, the manumatic shifts are very slow, so i imagine in full auto mode you will get better times

I don't think the auto shifts in manual mode are slow at all, really. Not quite as quick as my friend's 2002M3 with SMT, but still quick. On my g35, I have found letting up on gas slightly, shifting, and then pressing gas slightly till shift is complete gives nice shifts. However, on the 1st-2nd shift just leaving the gas alone sometimes is better.
