changing oil?

i am real anal about my cars and i usually let no one touch them unless it is something i can not do myself.
on my old car i changed the oil after the break in period @ 1000 miles and changed it every 3k miles after that. now on my infiniti my first import car what is the deal on changing the oil my sales rep said not to have it changed till 3700 miles and have the dealer do it and do not change it before that so they can check the oil? i know he is a sales rep so i did not take him too seriously. anyways i never used synthetic oil before is it recomended for the g35 and if so what brand is preferred. sorry so long.
thanks in advanced,
anthony

Re: changing oil?

ya i've been wondering the same things too... i typically stick with Mobile 1 in my current car (v6 camry w/ custom intake) and i believe your not supposed to put synthetic until after 10,000 miles, whatever is recommended by the synthetic oil

I agree. Mobil 1 or Royal Purple.

The FSM recommends mineral based oil. Please don't assume that this car is anything more than a regular car. You can use conventional, synthetic blend, or people use full synthetic with no problems too. Remember, this same motor is in an altima. It's not a Ferrari.

I agree. Let's not overhype the car here. Same basic engine as a Sentra/Altima. They don't need to run on liquid gold.

If you want to run synthetic oil go for it. If you want to run conventional, go for it. If you want to change the oil at 3K miles, go for it. If you want to go to 4K, fine.

Just select a good quality oil and filter and stay on top of the oil level (these motors sometime consume oil) and you will be fine.

13 year old thread. I think this one is a record

Wow 2002, that was almost 3 years before I stuck my head in the door. Nothing much has changed since then, if you have OCD about what you drive you still want your G to perform and run well. Which means changing that synthetic when it's dirty regardless of mileage and using oil filters that work better than the $1.50 filters Nissan sells...WIX or K&N. FYI AMSOIL recommends not using their synthetic until you have 4K miles on your ride. I made the jump to Mobil1 synthetic and K&N filters at 1K miles.

He has been doing this intentionally for over a year now.
