question about Sport Shifter on AUTO's

Now that my G is nicely broken in or almost at 1K miles,,
i have been messin with the sport shifter,,
and i was just wondering if your traveling at around 35-45MPH at what gear would you shift in, to get the fastest pick-up from that speed, to say about 60MPH?

Your fastest accelleration will be when your engine is at the peak of its torque curve...4600 rpm. So, when you are at that rpm, no matter what the gear, you will accellerate the fastest. I believe that at around 45 mph 4600 rpm may be in second gear. Too late to go out and check it tonight. Have fun tomorrow.

not to thread jack, but i have a follow-on question. so i start out in 1st and move up to successive gears ~4-5k rpm. does this make sense? or should i be pushing the tach higher or shifting earlier?

If you want to mess w/ shifting you should have gotten a 6m/t

Shifting past 3.5K will use more gas. Our cars have such fantastic torque down low that all gears (except 5th?) pull effortlessly.

Try this:
From a standing start, accelerate slowly while manually advancing the gears to 3rd (@ ~25MPH).
FLOOR IT TILL REDLINE.
You'll be impressed.
