SUNROOF is NOISY when opening and closing!!! This can't be normal!???

My sunroof has become louder and louder when opening and closing. I can't describe the sound... Do I need to lubricate it or something?

I have an 05 and I have only had the car for a few months. Has anyone else experienced this?

WaLLy Jan 3, 2006 02:52 PM

i thought it was normal... but then again, i haven't heard of a sunroof that was quiet.

LjN_728 Jan 3, 2006 02:53 PM

Take it back to the dealer. Hopefully it just needs to be lubed and not the gears. Nonetheless, it's covered by warranty. btw...mines is quiet and smooth *Knock on wood*

It may be related to this TSB
Sunroof Lid Squeak/Creak Noise

It's been cold and RAINING a lot here in SF, CALI... so maybe that has something to do with it?

I don't want to leave it at the dealership for 8 hours for them to lube it so I am going to lube it myself...

What should I use? lithium or silicone?

Disco_Monkey Jan 3, 2006 03:08 PM

Binar - thanks that is the sound that I couldn't describe... "creaking"

I will try that...

binar Jan 3, 2006 03:30 PM

np :D

Just take it to the dealer, as with everything else in this car they will just lube it up and send you on your way (should last for a while).

ps binar, I like the gorillaz avatar...

i have taken mine back to the dealer 5 times.........still doesnt work right.......trip number 6 here we go

I've taken mine back several times. They just lube it then the noise goes away. I'm convinced quick detailer dries the rubber seals up causing them to squeak or creak every few months.

took mine back to dealership, and the noise stopped for a while and came back.
it rained this past weekend and the noise went away somehow. hope it stays away

<<Knock on wood>> the only noise that mine makes is the actual wind when going down the interstate!
