Dealer can't do my inspection!

So a month ago I schedule an appointment at Pepe Infiniti in White Plains for oil change, in-cabin filter, and to check a squeak in my clutch pedal. I made the appointment for this coming Monday, as my NY State Inspection is due on the 20th (hard to believe I have my G 3 years this month). Anyway, I call to tell them my work plans changed and I don't need the loaner car, and the service person tells me they've lost their authorization to do State Inspections, and that I need to go elsewhere to get the inspection done. Is this unbelievable?? The inconvenience is bad enough, but now I have to let some yahoo in a gas station put my car on his lift and poke around my brembos! So much for premium service. I've never heard of such a thing from a dealer. Anyway, thanks for letting me vent.

i would be skeptical about a dealership that lost their authorization for state inspections. They probably did something wrong to get their license revoked

aka helping someone pass that shouldnt have

its possible that they only had one tech authorized to do inspections and he might have just quit so they cant do them untill they get another tech w/insp license.

^ one tech licenced to do inspections at a franchise auto dealer??? Would a dealer even have an unlicenced tech other than an apprentice??

well in md most shops have just 1 or 2 state inspectors, thats mostly all they do.the insp and repairs to pass.now ase certification is a different story, most all good techs are cerified.

Just as a heads up, I have yet to see any car dealer in NY with the proper equipment to do the emissions testing for inspections. In NY, if the car is more the 2 yrs old, it must be put on a dyno so the emissions can be tested at hwy speed. That said, chances are, your G was probably going to an offsite shop for inspection anyway. The reason they were able to do it last year was because it was just a safety check. I bet you the shop they outsourced to closed or something. Take a look around thier shop and see if you see a bay dedicated to inspections. you should see the rollers for the wheels and a huge fan. I have yet to see a dealer with one.

The setups are just too damn $$ to justify the few bucks they make on a $37 inspection.

I talked with one of their service consultants today who confirmed pretty much what Diesel 1 said- though she made it sound like their inability to do this was a fairly recent occurrence. She suggested that some electronic method of measuring emissions was acceptable in the past, but not anymore. Oh well, it's off to the Texaco station tomorrow morning...

no one really makes anything on a safety inspection. if you need a dealership to get an inspection done i can help you set up and appointment at infiniti of massapequa. i usually keep an eye out on my customer's cars so they get cleaned and make sure everything is going well. just let me know if it'll make you happy
