'06 AT. Deep boom noise when shifting to 3rd

Hey Guys-

Bought an 06 coupe AT few weeks ago. Anyways, when I use the electronic shift, which is fun by the way, I hear and feel a deep booming noise only when I shift from 2nd to 3rd.

Anyone know what this is and whether it should be something I need to be worried about?

Thats you breaking the sound barrier.
Try driving slower:D

^^^LMAO . . . Too funny!

What rpm are you shifting at? I am not familiar with the G's AT set-up. However a "Booming" sound cannot be all that good. If you are running your new baby hard, you might want to give her sometime to break-in.

In any event, congrats and enjoy. I trust that it is nothing serious. ;)

Its a "thump" sound when you shift from 2nd to 3rd. I bet it happens more frequently under 4k rpm. It simply is the ECU not ready for the shift because your pedal position under automatic suggests you shift at a higher rpm but you are short shifting. Also, the manumatic has firmer shifts and this thump noise is the result of that. Many auto owners have this so don't worry too much. Just shift at a higher rpm and it goes away.

Yeah. 05at here and mine does the same thing. Right around 4-4.5k with moderate throttle. Maybe with a slight lift of the throttle. It's normal. Just shift at a higher or lower rpm or with more throttle input.

yeah it happens right around 4-4.5k RPM. Under 4, I can barely hear it ... if I'm pushing hard, you can't hear it as much either.

Weird thing is it only ever happens with shifting into 3rd and not any other gear.

If anyone knows the gearing ratios... it's probably caused by a bigger gap between 2nd and 3rd? But yeah, I have this problem also... but it's not a big deal cause whenever using the manumatic, I'm bound to shift around 5.5/6 :D
