Am I the only one who doesn't plant clutch to floor at Stop Light?
I noticed a couple buddies of mine who drive manual at stop signs or traffic lights they have it geared in first with their clutch planted all the way to the floor, i just find this weird, i usually just set it in neutral and take my foot off the clutch at a stop sign or traffic light, anyone do it like I do with the neutral and non-planting of clutch?
|
i take my foot off the clutch.. but when i first started driving stick i use to keep my foot on the clutch.. it was a ford so the clutch was very soft..
i let off the brake if its a flat area too =X im a lazy driver =\ |
Usually in neutral...need to rest my clutch foot :-)
|
i leave it in neutral at a stop light with my foot off
doesnt it ruin teh clutch when u leave it down and in gear? |
why? Neutral is not a gear.. its spinning the input shaft of the tranny but the output shaft is in no way connected.. so its just spinning freely
weather your foot is on or off the clutch wont effect the clutch life. IMO foot on the clutch will probably be worst cause its just boucing around between the flywheel and pressure plate |
it wouldnt do anything because when a clutch is engaged it is just like neutral
|
Depends how long I'm at the light. I'll usually pop it in gear before the light changes so I can get out quick. But sitting at the light with the clutch pushed in won't really harm anything, other than your knee after a while. ;)

It's hard on the throw out bearing if you keep the clutch pedal down. It prematurely wears it out. Not a good thing to do. See............ it's good to be lazy!!!:p :)
|
yes it'll wear out your TO bearing and you might end up with some chatter later from your clutch as a result.
|
^ Correct.
It's NOT "harmless". Real drivers put it in neutral and release the clutch. |
my cousin jus got his clutch replaced on his z because it wore out 20,000 miles on the car........he thinks its because he keeps his foot on the clutch and kept it in gear.........but i jus put it in neutral and take my foot off im too lazy
|
dont use the clutch when you dont need the clutch!!

yes a dirty clutch is a bad clutch and this thread is now useless that the right info is out . p.s. you don't want to replace your throwout bearing, thats a beetch.
