6MT's, How often do you redline?

For those of you fellow 6MT's out there, how often do you redline your car? At what RPM does the fuel shut off kick in and at what RPM does damage begin to occur?

I typically dont redline although I will admit I have mis-shifted and even taken the car anywhere to 7400-7600RPM, only once that high thankfully. The few other times have only been up to about 7200.

Everyday

like the title says: everyday--at least 4 times. I own a 06 6MT and they way i look at it is if something breaks from now to 2010 it's Inifiniti's problem and not mine. My game plan is also to sell the car after the warranty expires and get a BMW M3. I don't think it's bad for engine to rev that high. The motor has been engineered to do more than the 7K redline so no real damage will come of it. Just keep good clean oil in your engine and the car will be fine. My 2 cents...:)

yeah i agree mostly...but I don't do it everyday....maybe 2times a week IF THAT....i don't like to beat on itt....sometimes 4 times a month :D

I redline about 1 of every 3 times I am at a stop light.

KPierson Apr 23, 2006 09:19 PM

As often as possible!

Theres nothing like the sound of a fully built VQ35 bouncing off the rev limiter!

Wow, that makes me feel so, so much better. Thanks guys. How about revving in neutral and red-lining it? Is that bad?

Poptarts Apr 23, 2006 09:41 PM

i guess infiniti's service about this kind of thing is better than mitsubishi.

i had an evo for 6 months and 5500 miles. ill admit i tore the **** out of that thing. in that 6 months i went through 2 stock clutches, 2 transfer cases, a transmission, and the driveshaft. from teh first time to the last time i took that car in mitsubishi didnt want to warranty ****. the car was completely stock too

i know those of you who think warranty is there to save your life, the dealership just has to claim abuse and you are screwed. a few things they look at are front and back tire wear, how much clucth material u have left (theres an indicator on the bottom of the transmission) and how many miles are on the car.

all im saying that you should be careful about how ofter you redline. im not quite sure where fuel cut-off is on the 6MT but on the auto its around 7200

I would never rev my motor to redline in neutral. In fact, many cars prevent this condition, often referred to as 'no load reving.' Most cars won't rev past ~4K in N.

I drive a lot of rental cars and often research rev limiters both under load and with no load. :)

I only did that once. I mis-shifted from 2nd to 3rd, revved to about 7400 for mayyybe 4 seconds. I was pissed!

kenchan Apr 23, 2006 10:12 PM

only on occasion do i redline. the 2004's motor is stronger in the mid-rpms
anyway.

Andy2434 Apr 23, 2006 10:28 PM

Only occasionally do I see the red. When driving spirited, I shift at or about 6.5k rpm.

Disco_Monkey Apr 23, 2006 10:32 PM

At least once a day. There is always someone that trys to speed up when they see you signal to get over.
