Gas Mileage

Just got back off a road trip with my new G35 (2 weeks old). Drove 1300 miles at an average of 75mph and got 24 mpg. How does this compare to what others are getting?

Re: Gas Mileage

My G-Sedan got 32.9 Mpg (imperial) tops, (about 27.4 Mpg U.S.) . That was with about 6-700 miles on it and a steady 70 MPH on about 300 mile trip. I was happy with that. A mix of 50/50 in town and Hwy miles usually got me 27-29 mpg with minimal 'fun'.
There's lots of threads on Gas Mileages just do a search . You'll find mucho info.

Re: Gas Mileage

I'm a bit anal about mileage. I've gotta stop checking it so much. Got into the habit ages ago and enjoy logging. The car is meant more for fun than economy anyway.
I usually do better than EPA and check mileage very carefully for accuracy.
Just a thought about your 22mpg on the hwy at 75mph: Are
you in the States?... 22 MPG to the US gallon at that speed is not bad. Anything much over 60 really cuts into mileage.
A suggestion: Try 70 or even 65 and check. I think you'll see a substantial increase. But don't get too caught up in mileage
..it takes away from all the fun you can have. JMHO.....

Re: Gas Mileage

Have you or anyone tried regular fuel? if so, was the milage/ performance similar? I know other nissan 3.5 engines recommend regular fuel, so why is this any different?

Re: Gas Mileage

JaMbEe, I got 700 kilometers or about 435 miles out of a tank last summer on a 500 mile trip. worked out to 32.5MPG- (CANADIAN) or about 27MPG (US). That was grannying it very carefully and no more than 70 mph. My consumption is usually in the 20-25MPG (US) range.
I check my mileage very carefully and log every mile and every gallon.

"Regular fuel? I think we should stick with the manufacture recommeded fule."

The general rule is, "If the engine ain't a knockin', the fuel is a rockin'." Or something like that. I'm still in the first 1K break-in so I've only used premium. Has anyone tried middle grade fuel? Does your engine knock?

Re: Gas Mileage

Some people have. It shouldn't knock, the anti-knock sensors will catch it and retard the timing to prevent knocking. Your general rule (if the engine ain't a knockin', the fuel is a rockin') would apply more to older cars (no anti-knock sensors, maybe even as far back as carberators). Since the engine computer has to retard timing to prevent knocking, the fuel doesn't, as you say, "rock." The engine is purposely pulling less power from the fuel than it could to prevent knocking. I wouldn't look to save much money. The general rule of thumb for engines made for premium is that you lose both power and fuel economy in about the same percentage as the money you save. Plus, you're looking at less than $200/year in gas. The question you should be asking yourself is, "If $200 per year is that important to me, why did I buy a performance sedan over an economy sedan?" Not to mention the higher insurance costs you bear as well.

Re: Gas Mileage

My TL knocked defiantly if fed anything but premium. So I stuck with premium.
