First scheduled service.

My 06 G sedan has 2000 miles on it. I bought the car back in March of this year. I continue to get phone calls from the dealer suggesting that I bring the car in for it's three month service. Should I do this or just wait until I reach 3000 miles for my first service?

Might I ask what this 3K service is!? The only thing I'm aware of that should be done that early is an oil change. Sounds to me that they just want your $. Get your oil changed at a reputable shop and you're all set IMO.

The only thing I can think of that early is for them to check for any nit picking issues you may have (like, in my case, the rubber seal on my door kept on coming loose.

Thats what I ment by 3000 mile service. The only thing I could think of was a oil change. Thanks.

Only thing of any consequence if oil change. don't worry about it until 3k.

Yeah, you only need the oil change. But, take it in for any nit-picky kinda things. Some things are only covered under warranty for the first 12K miles. For example, I got my car re-aligned under warranty at 3,750 miles. Unfortunately, I took my car in for wiper chatter with a little over 12K miles, and they wouldn't replace the wipers under warranty (wiper warranty expires at 12K).

I changed my oil at 1,220...and on the reminder decal they put on my window, it says, bring it back at 4,000 or some date (can't recall)...whichever comes first. I'll probably hit 4,000 before the date but nevertheless, what's up with the date?

kevink 07-10-2006 08:32 PM

Normally oil changes are every 3750 or every 3 months. I normally go by mileage rather than time, though if is too long, I'll change early. for instance, with my truck, I won't wait over 6 months between oil changes, even though it won't have gone over 3000 miles. You can pick up moisture, etc.

Based on the maintenance schedule, I should have hit 30K at 2 years, but it will be almost 3 years for me.

I agree. Bought in my G35X for a 3K oil change and asked them for an alignment and to fix a rattle on the dashboard. All fixed at $0.

Alot of the engine wear occurs during the first hundred miles and it would adviseable to do it around 1k miles for precauation. The oil used initially is not "break in" oil and therefore no reason not to do it before 3k. I changed mine at about 1200 miles just because I wanted what did wear out of the oil and to monitor for any excessive consumption.

Be careful, though. Make sure you tell them oil change, or whatever else you want, and don`t even mention three month or gazillion mile anything, or you will end up being charged for something you didn`t want. It happened to me, and I`m old enough to know better. Dealer got savvy, though. They used a cute chick with huge bazooms as service writer. I was so busy checking out that plunging neckline, I don`t even know what she said. Just signed when she shoved the clipboard under my nose!
