Help, my car won't move!!!!!!
1 Attachment(s)
I'm new to this board. I have an '05 G35x with apprx 18,000 miles on it. I went to start it this morning and it started perfectly but when i went to change gears the shifter wouldn't move from park position. Btw its an auto. I tried to forcefully move it but it is stuck in park. Then as soon as i tried to move it, the lights below in the pic lit up on the dash. I turned the car on and off many times but I can't move from park or drive. What can i do?? I'm stuck.

try this
turn the car to the on position...see if you could move it into neutral. if you can - do it- than turn the car on while in neutral than shift into Drive. I had that problem with my mustang....but who knows    |

try resetting the ecu by unpluging the battery.
Also check and see if the shifter lock is on, if it is then turn it off. |
sorry if i sound naive, but how do i unplug the battery / how do i turn off the shift lock?
|
10 mm socket on neg terminal
+ flat head screwdriver tipped w/ electrical tape on "Shift Lock" next to shifter in cabin |
turning off the shift lock worked but is only a temporary solution. When i go back to park i cant move it again. I tried unplugging the battery. Didnt work either. I unplugged it for about 10 min. Do i need to leave it unplugged overnight? or should i just take it to the dealer?

:D Just to kill time while you are waiting, the owners manual has a great plot!;) :D

Sounds like a neutral safety switch went bad.

^^^ there was a TSB on that. take the car to the dealer and they'll take care of it free.

Oh no
Actually, the exact problem happened to me few years ago, with my 02 altima. I just turned off the shift lock and took it back to the dealer the following day. It was covered by warranty anyway. |
