5AT can't hold on an incline?
Greetings,
Just had the strangest problem with my 05 5AT. On a slight incline of say 8 degrees, the auto trans can not hold the vehicle. I tried to parallel park and it was like having a stick all over again - without the benefit of a hand brake! Caused me to hit another vehicle. Mentioned it during my 15K service, just to be told it was normal. Did a search, but did not see any one else complaining. Suddenly I am a little concerned about having this car in an area with hills... |
i'll test mine when i get it back tomorrow but i don't remember this being a problem on mild inclines
Mine won't hold on my driveway.

Might have something to do with the torque converter stall speed?
That's about the only downside to having a high performance higher stall torque converter in this car. If rolling is such an issue then why use the foot brake and gas? It's not that hard.

The typical road standards for maximum grade on collector streets is usually 8% (or about 3.6 degrees), and perhaps 10% (4.5 degrees) on residential streets. |
I have the same problem on the parking garage ramps. Wants to roll down.
why didn't you buy a 6MT? :P
I understand it is a bit of an inconvenience but not using the parking brake in a situation like that is bad on the tranny.
i think tat was the only draw back with the earlier sedans..no hand brake..gay
i have a 5AT and my experience is the opposite i have been on some pretty big inclines and my g usually doesn't roll down that is unless i have momentum, but if i come to a slow stop it usually holds and i can even take my foot off the brake and chill.
