Help! My fuel door won't unlock..

Last night, I was faced with an interesting problem..
My fuel light was on, I was in a gas station, but my 03 sedan's fuel door wouldn't unlock  . I was approx 40km away from home and Infiniti roadside assistance wasn't able to provide me with much help. So I decided to make a dash for home and got home in one piece :driving:

Is there a way to manually unlock the fuel door?

Not sure but check for a fuse or a relay under the hood, good luck.

There is a TSB for that. My 04 sedan had that problem one month after I purchased it. Also when you take it in to them ask them to attach a manual cable for future problem.

I have only heard of that from a couple people. Hope the dealer takes care of it for you.

When I first brought my car I thought I had the same problem took the car to the dealership and the service manager came out to take a look at it I was never told that all four doors needed to be unlocked before I could open the gas door. I know how you feel to be low on gas and not be able to open the stupid gas door.

I had that about 3 months ago. It's been the only thing that has gone wrong on my car. Frintier Infiniti fixed it for about $175 and it took under an hour. i too was on empty and was getting concerned I could even make it to the dealership. I tried to open the door manually but didn't want to risk chipping the paint surrounding the fuel door. I wish they made a manual fuel door release.

This happened to me before. To manually open the fuel door you have to open the trunk and then pull the right cover off. After you pull off the cover you will see the mechanism that locks and unlocks you fuel door. There is a pin that locks the fuel door just push it back and the door should be unlocked now. I had to go to the dealer to get it replaced though. This is only a temp fix.

This must be for the 05 only, because my 04 says that only the driver side door needs to be open

That just might be a warranty item.....did you shut the car off and take the
keys out of the ignition? (just checking) :coolio:

This has happened to me more than once. I've ended up pulling back the cover and unplugging the conection. Life is much better now.

ttrank May 29, 2007 02:46 PM

So did you get it fixed?

+1

Had this happen right before a road trip. Mine was just stuck luckily. I just pulled it back and after that it has been working perfectly ever since. It is the little white plunger thing underneath the carpeting. It is easy to get at, 1 or 2 clips if I remember right.

dunglan7 Aug 7, 2007 04:34 PM

^ It's covered under warranty. Don't pry it open just follow the directions above.

I thought there was a thread about this with a defective solenoid as the cause. I think there may have been a free dealer repair, but don't quote me!
