Tips for fast 1/4 mile

hey guys
ive challenged my friend with a 92 stealth twin turbo to a race. According to most reports ive seen, a TT stealth will run a 14.1, but my friend thats driving it isnt very skilled. However, hes talked alot of smack about the even and "promises to wipe the floor with me." What started off as a friendly race has turned into a battle of words. Well be racing on a street closed to the public, with no traffic or pedestrians, so dont give me the street racing is bad lecture. What are things i can do to decrease my times. Ive already thought of taking out the spare and dropping my rear tire pressure to about 20 p.s.i. anything else i can do? id love some tips to keep my honor alive. thanks guys

how about some performance mods? U a 6spd or a Auto?
tire psi wont do much if u dont have enough power. Spare will dont a tad. good luck

performance mods arent really an option (no matter how much i want them to be) for its my dads car. its a 5at, and i know how to launch and shift well, ive practieced that. I just want every little edge i can get

I'd say octane boost, except without the TS ECU upgrade, it won't do you any good. Try to have the tank at around 1/4 - 1/8 full.

Without making actual changes to the car you are quite limited. Any weight reduction (spare tire, low gas tank, and no passengers or other extra items) will help. Tires maybe. Working on your reaction time and shifting skills will also help.

If that fails, just cheat.

I'd say if he's driving a manual trans. Stealth and he's not a good driver (racing-wise), you should leave it in "Auto" mode, brake-torque, and launch it.

The auto will shift flawlessly, while he's likely to wreck a shift = you win.

Also: If you believe the hype, do the 24 hour battery disconnect to reset the ECU for prime performance on the 5AT.

ive gotten pretty good at timing the shifts in MM and from what ive seen they are giving people .2 in the 1/4...thanks guys, what do you guys think about taking out the filter for the duration of the race and replacing it immediatly after? i know a miata that runs no filter all the time

Also a do a quick burnout...just to remove gravel or small pebbles off your tires, so you can get a good launch....you really don't need to smoke them....just so the wheels slip and the smal derbis are removed from the tires.
Good luck...and be safe....one more tip...scout the place so you know no cops are sitting anywhere, or if any traffic that might be coming.

this is basically the local drag strip, so we always scout for cops first. Its an industrial area and most of the racing is done later at night, so there are no more people left in the buildings and leaving

It would take all of 15 minutes to swap on a 350z upper intake tube and drop in a K&N panel if you could get your hands on them. Then again, victory might be sweeter if you took him stock...

Re: Tips for fast 1/4 mile

If your car is stock and so is his then you will not be able to take him from a stop as all TT's have AWD and that helps alot from a stop, I know as I have a 3000GT VR4 at around 500hp and I am a member of 3si so I think I know of the post which you maybe reffering to.
Good luck and be careful, just enjoy the run.

The ECU reset is must, not only will it shift better, but the throttle response is set back to the factory defaults. (Don't start the debate here, over if it works or not, just read the thread). You don't need to disconnect the battery, read this thread.
