Spare Key

Hello,

When I bought my car, it only came with 1 set of keys. I was wondering what is the best way to buy duplicate keys. I would like to hear what some of you guys are doing to get extra set of keys. Thanks.

Was in the same boat a month ago when I got my G, I went on ebay and bought these two additional keys from seller below

Then went to an infiniti dealer to meet with a sales person pretending that I wanted to trade my G for an M45, test drove one, and at the end asked if he had someone in service who could help him program two keys for me. He ran me over there, I got both keys cut, all 3 keys and 2 additional remotes ( also from ebay) programmed. $160 service for free. Off I went dreaming about that M45 I so can't afford right now LOL.

Yeah, when I bought my used G35 I only got one ignition key and one remote. I got a second remote from www.originalkeyless.com; its an OEM Infinit remote that cost me $45 shipped, plus it came with directions to program it which took me less than 5 minutes. I still need that second key though, and I've seen them on eBay and other places online. The only problem is that it not only needs to be cut, the Infiniti dealership told me they have to be programmed, which I'm not sure how to do. If someone can tell me how to program a new ignition key, I could get the one off eBay and save like $100.

As said above the dealer must program your new keys.

I bought 2 keys off ebay for $30 then went to a local locksmith who cut and programmed my keys for $60. Total $90 dollars and 2 more perfectly working keys which one is in my remote start, one is a backup, and the last one I use.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN ONE IS IN YOUR REMOTE START .??

YOU HAVE A KEY SITTING SOMEWHERE INSIDE YOUR CAR .??

I beleive that's the only way to do remote start in new car w/ chip keys. It's hidden somewhere. I would probably use a non cut key if possible though.

ID SAY FORGET EVEN LEAVING IT BLANK.
HELL CUT THE ACTUAL KEY OFF ..

LEAVE THE CHIP IN THE CAR WHERE IT WOULD NEED TO BE ..

NO NEED TO LEAVE A SPARE KEY FOR WHOEVER MIGHT

KNOW OR FIND OUT

ITS THERE AND JUST START IT RIGHT UP ...

That make even more sense, but I'd still be afraid to do it. If someone has been scoping out the neighbor hood and has seen u remote start ur car, then all there's left to do is take big ol screwdriver to the ignition.

dat's the price you have to pay for a remote start. the only add security can add is some kind of aftermarket security system. but we all know that if someone really wants your car, they can get it.

kenasaki 07-31-2007 03:38 PM

so theres a freakin chip in our ignition keys right now? even if we dont have premium or anything like that? you'd still have to have it programmed by the dealer?

04NismoV35 07-31-2007 03:43 PM

Chip keys have been around for a while and is standard on most mid priced and up cars nowadays.

Kazaam 07-31-2007 04:25 PM

I was gonna keep my third key uncut, but at the dealership they can't program it without putting it in the ignition then turning it on w/out starting the car to go on with programming sequence, hence impossible with an uncut key. It all depends on who installs your remote start, you need to make sure they put it away somewhere far far away from easy access, or simply as someone stated just brake off the key because all it needs is the chip inside the transponder key.
