Performance... What's next??

Aside from going and dropping the $5k or whatever on a supercharger or TT's, what else can I do to eek out a little more power for not a ridiculous amount of $$$?

So far here's the list of stuff I've done:
Cams
Kinetix V+
Headers
Test pipes (currently out because of the annoying raspy sound)
Stock resonator removed in favor of cherry bomb
Pop charger
Z tube

I think that's it...

Anyone have any ideas on where to go from here? I'm thinking nitrous might be the only way to go on the lower cost end of the spectrum... Does anyone know a place that can do a good dyno tune here in Scottsdale, AZ?

you definitely need an ECU upgrade or something like the Unichip to adjust for all your other mods.

Motordyne MREV with 5/16 spacer?

dualGz Nov 7, 2007 03:04 PM

Isn't the MREV just a ported version of the current lower plenum? I'm thinking this weekend that I might port match the lower plenum. Opinions?

On the spacer, I thought that you weren't supposed to use an aftermarket plenum with a spacer?

Has anyone come up with a carbon fiber driveshaft for the G? And more importantly, a SINGLE piece design? I'm all about the two piece for keeping things smooth, but that's a pretty big chunk of weight (and drag on the drivetrain) that could be eliminated by going to a single piece...

You have almost everything you need so far without going to spray or boost. I would get a unichip or UTEC with a good tune. Give UMS Tuning a call, they are in north Mesa at Southern and Dobson. 480-446-TUNE. They know the VQ very well and Tony is a great tuner. They did my TT kit and TwinSnails 600whp G.

Tell them Tim sent you and they will take good care of you.

I am not aware of one on the market.

dual G have you been dynoed with your current set up ? have any RWHP #'s with your current set up ?

how much is a cam(s) installation ?

dualGz Nov 7, 2007 04:20 PM

How much am I lookin' at for the tune? Say $3-400? I'm wanting to boost it, but I want a lower mileage engine to start with, so I'm holding out for that.

dualGz Nov 7, 2007 04:25 PM

Haven't been dyno'd with the current setup. I ran a 16.2 at Firebird Raceway with a 300lb speaker box, chrome heavy-*** 20's, and no engine mods. Not sure on cost for installation for cams. I've always done everything myself... I'm one of those people who doesn't trust shops. Lol.

They charge ~$125 an hour for tuning. If you can get your hands on a good base tune from another member on here or my350z first it will save a lot of time. TurboXS (they make the utec) has some tunes on their web site but I'm not sure if they have any N/A's.

You can pick up a used unichip for ~$300-400 or a UTEC for ~$700-800.

whoa 16's stock?

Thats horrifically slow, a stock G should be in the low to mid 14's

jon

dualGz Nov 7, 2007 05:22 PM

Lol... You're tellin' me! I'm gonna take it back to the track and see if I can't get some better numbers... The car really did feel pretty slow, and it's picked up significantly since then. Hopefully I don't make a fool of myself!

jonE5 Nov 7, 2007 05:25 PM

do you have an auto or 6MT?

I had a 99 JRSC Si pushing 8psi of boost that i hit mid 14's with with tons of wheel hop, prolly would have been good for 13's with better tires

Also had a chipped 1.8t with lsd, clutch, etc... that was good for high 13s low 14ls also

and my G feels at least as fast as these cars, no track time yet, but its totally stock for now.

jon!

Automatic. The thing bogs down off the line like it has absolutely no torque. Once it's above 3.5k rpms though, it's movin' along nicely... it's just getting it up to that range that takes forever.
