What's a good metal ramp to lift up the car for oil change?
 

Hi all,

Bythabay's DIY videos are just awesome. I checked out his oil change video and maybe I should consider doing my own oil change now that I have two cars and it's a bit of a hassle bringing it out to shops for oil changes. I see that he jacks up the car on jack stands. I have two jack stands myself (2 1/4 ton each) but I think having a metal ramp may be easier and maybe with a combination of ramp and jack stand as a second protection.

From searches, people have the rhino ramp (plastic) but I am not sure how sturdy plastics can be so I am looking at metal ramps. How hard is it to get a car up there? Below are a couple links to metal ramps that I was looking into. My main concern is safety of course since I am not too mechanical incline for these things but "may" consider taking a stab at it. :D

ramps suck just jack on the pinch weld and slap a jack stand under there.

Jack + jack stand is a much better combo.

Seems like the ramps available are made for jacked-up cars. There's barely any ramps out there that compensates bumper clearance...it's like you need a "ramp" to get up on the "ramp" :dunno:

i use rhino ramps. they work fine

The only ramp you posted that will work would be the race ramps at $180. Plus they are plastic :)

I got some rhino ramps for $15.Very sturdy. I got Tito to get some too.

For stock/near stock, they work great. If you are lowered alot, no ramps will help. Even getting a jack under the car requires you to drive up on some 1x6 or similar.

I agree on the Rhino ramp....pretty sturdy:biggthumpup: & good price!

The rhino ramps are awesome, but they barely clear on my car and my car is not lowered.

My car is the stock X height. I only swapped it out with 18'' wheels and 245/45/18 tires.

I guess the sliver rhino pics are the higher end model. Isn't plastic ramps fragile???

Those plastic ramps are more then strong enough. I put suv's on them all the time without problems.

But to just do oil change, shouldn't need to jack up the rear right? Seems like from the threads I've read today, that most people perfer jack stands and alot of people find it hard to get their car up the ramps.

With jack stands on the side for the front, can I still put the jack in the front jack point (for added safety) and still have room to do oil change?

I did but just thinking a 3,000+ lb car rolling up some plastic? ...hehe :eek:
