Rear license plate screw won't tighten!

Seems that one of the two, uh, holes (guessing that's not the technical term) that the rear license plate screws into seems to be missing something and so I can tighten only one of the two screws. The "holes" seem to be little clips that attach to the rear bumper, but I can't slide off the clip on the working side to see what's missing on the other side. Anyone know where I could get a clip or another fix?

get a bigger screw and a drill.

can you take a picture so I can see exactly what size clips you are talking about? If that is too much trouble, I could ship you out a new pair of clips for like $5-7 bucks. PM me.

Anyone know the thread pitch of the screws?

I'd like to get some stainless steel security screws. I've had my vanity plate stolen before :(

By thread pitch do you mean like size?? I have never heard that term before. I can check on that for you.

you can get a replacement screw at advance auto, that's what i've done

Thanks, I will snap some pics tonight and PM you.

I also need the cupholder insert from the center console (behind the sliding door) and I assume the clutch pedal is not supposed to be just exposed metal so I need the rubber cover for that as well. Assuming the dealer would have these items, right?

Yes, bolt size and thread pitch...or threads per inch.

3/8-24 or maybe m10-1.0. Something like that.

i've actually emailed my infiniti dealership about this before, here was the response

"license plate screws are metric 6 x 16 if you need a set let me know I can mail them to you"

RADIOGUY21 Dec 11, 2008 10:35 AM

yes, the licsense plate screws are M6 standard pitch. You can pick them up at any hardware store.

I had almost the same problem as you when I first bought my car pre-owned. It came with 1 working screw and 1 non-working screw (with the nut rusted shut on the other end). I had to saw out the problem screw and eventually replaced with a fresh set of security license plate screws from Advance Auto.

Well after all these responses it looks like it would be easier for the OP to pick up some screws locally than go through me. If you still need the actual clips, let me know.

Also, thanks for the clarification on thread pitch, Mustang.

I lost one of my licence plate screws. I ll try and pick the M6 Standard Pitch screw from Home depot.

Again, these can be had at the AUTO parts store. There should be a plastic snap-in insert that goes in the hole before the screw goes through the plate. Usually you can pick up eith er the inserts by themselves or insert with plate screws. Easy stuff.
