85 mph, oops there's SMOKEY!
 

Saturday about 4:45 PM, I'm in 4th gear punching it (at about 85mph) all of the sudden i see a Cop on the right side of the highway. F rederick- U rskin- C alvin- K evin!!!! I slam on the brakes and pass him at about 60mph. Notice the capital letters of each name. ( I have kids, that my way of refraining from using profanity.
Well I figure i'm toast. I'm watching my rear view and there is alot of traffic in the right lane so I figure he'll have some trouble getting on the highway to give chase.

So I see an opening an nail it again!! My house is the next exit so I get off and make a quick left and I'm home free.

No ticket, this guy was probably not paying attention, or perhaps the traffic did not allow him to get on the highway. Either way wheeewwww! I'll be more careful. But the G35 brakes are a beautiful thing. This is the second time I have stomped on them and the car reacts if it was grabbing pavement.

I know I got lucky. I'll remember that...

I know i need to get one, any suggestions? I have never owned one. What happens if a cop sees it when getting a ticket?

Anyone have this experience? I feel a little jittery when I think about this. As far as I know, radar detectors are legal in Florida, so I'm not breaking any law, but I guess if I'm stopped for speeding and smokey sees the detector, no way in hell am I going to be given a break.

BTW, there were a couple of recent threads on radar detectors, just scroll down and you'll easily find them, or you might find it in the "Off Topic" forum,... don't remember where.

Will do.
I have been driving for 25 years and I have a pretty good sense about SMOKEYS. Also I pick and choose where I speed because I normally drive the same routes and usually know where they are lurking.

Why would radar detectors not be legal? They have ads for them in Car and Driver and other mags.

I was doing at least 90 in a 55. A cop pulled me over and saw the radar detector and said "What's the matter, didn't your radar detector go off?" I said "It did, but I didn't notice because my radio was too loud." He laughed then he said, "Well just slow down" and he let me go!

hahahha I guess I was just lucky he had a sense of humor.

WhOA!!! that tops my story BIGTIME!! I 'm happy for you! Yeah a sense of humor goes along way. The cop probably was admiring your car also. Stopping you was probably a way to get a better look at it!

Seems like I got away again!!!

I was turning left through a traffic light which had turned yellow when I saw those dreaded red and white lights again. When the cops walked up to the car, he said "that was kinda close", I stated that the light was still yellow when I pulled past it. Then it happened, the other officer said "NICE car, brand new?" We got into a 20 minute conversation about G35, performance, price, ...etc.

Finally, the first officer handed back my license and said "Just becareful, people are having their Xenons stolen around here" and drove off.

Chi_35, man you have some luck!! Your first story was a good one. Again, wow! It pays to keep your car clean and be personable when dealing with police officers. Hey, these guys are just doing there jobs. As long as you give that respect and don't come off as wise as$ (hopefully things turn out okay.)

See I told ya cops admire cars too. I'll bet you were cool as a cucumber when dealing with them. Good for you man, be careful. love my G also!!!
