have you checked the AWD fuse under teh driver's side?

No point in blind guessing until you pull the code and advise what it is.

I have pages of electrical schematics also, but im not sure they would be too usefull unless you are willing to really dig into it... and if you were I would assume you have this service manual anyway.

here is another page, about troubleshooting:

These codes might help, but they might only be usefull if you have a consult II reader.

Great job Konsole!

I doubt the OP is going to get any kind of answer better than that!

what would I need to trouble shoot this problem myself? I have an OBD II scanner. Is there another tool to use to run a diagnosis on this?
When i got in this morning the AWD went back off like it used to.....when I got in to go home from work it was back on again.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just took it to infiniti and they ran a diagnosis.....it is the AWD Actuator Relay which according to yours it is located in the AWD control Unit. They want to charge me $1,250 to fix this.......

1st question- does anyone know where either the Actuator Relay is located or the AWD control Unit for a 2004 G35 Sedan

2nd question- Does anyone know if this is something that I can do myself?

If someone can call me or has a picture of where it is located, I would very grateful.
Thanks
Brian

sent you a PM with a link to the service manual

oh god... 1250$ this is one of those small fears i had getting an AWD model.

looking at the FSM it shows its under the dash. the picture the FSM gives you is an odd angle nothing is labeled but with all those wires around it i figure its under the dash.

this is something i would assume is a special order part, which will be deemed un-returnable in the event that it doesn't solve your problems. I dont know how much encoding/adapting they have to do with the AWD CM to the other CM

just read the R/I on it, um looks like NOTHING is really needed it find it, 2 bolts unplug and install new one.

i ran a quick car-parts.com search and they show up for $125 ish, just go under transmission computer and then select 4x4 under the dash and you should be good. Just call and get AS MUCH info as you can before.

I have an OBD II scanner......does anyone know if this is the same as the Consult II scanner?

TurTLe* 03-27-2009 12:41 AM

obd2 is far from a consult 2

im sure our car runs on a CAN system, and even if it didn't most generic OBD2 readers will not access the AWD CM let to pull codes. OBd2 is only for engine faults, airbags, TMPS, TCM, ABS will not read. even on the higher $$ ones it MIGHT do ABS and airbags but nothing further.

Yes mine just started doing that after I had my wheel bearings changed.
