My car is slower than a stock 03.5?

Met up with a local guy this weekend (en4cer) with his 03.5 sedan at the strip. He has an HKS muffler, kn filter and a z tube. Only mods. He has Z springs and 05 sedan sport 18s.

My car has an HR y pipe, coupe midpipe, hks muffler, chromed z tube, jwt pop charger and a 5/16th spacer.

We raced once with equally good launches and his car slowly pulls away.

Wtf my car has more mods, what is causing his to be faster? Both are automatics. Would this just mean his car is faster from factory or what?

I am just curious, because if a stock G can beat a modded one, then mods make no sense and nobody should buy them.

03 was a bit lighter...check the specs. 03.5 has power understated, it is likely same ~280 hp on the crank(look at my dyno numbers with intake and exhaust only)
Cars are not coming the same from the factory, they can vary +-10hp.
Condition of tranny(slip?), engine wear are the factors as well.
Your mods are not susbstantial to make or break anything and you may even have loss of power in some places in the powerband. In order to realize benefits of your mods fully you would need to race to 100 mph

Wheels and tires play a role too. Maybe someone got a better launch? Why didn't you guys go from a roll?

Put some forged 18s on and you will beat him.

So many things to consider....wheel n tire size, weight, who reacted first, etc....
Don't feel bad I have a 04 coupe with 5/16 spacer, JWT popcharger, Z-tube, Stillen Y-pipe, and 3" bcak from the Y to a single muffler. Most I could get out of the car was a 15.6 @ 90.90 in the 1/4. Granted I am in Denver with a 5600 ft elevation. Lost a bit of low end due to the mods but downsized from 45 series to 40 tires and got a bit back.

Throwing a bunch of mods on your car doesn’t make it faster… carefully choosing the “right” mods and taking care to be sure they are proper for each other… then tuning to take advantage of the correct mods will result in a faster G.

seriously, you are stock aside from the spacer. plus if you have the big kicker sub then it would even it out.

Could be reaction time. Could be those big 19s slowing you down too.

weight plays a big factor here

best answer here ever

some people just add exhaust, headers, etc and dont fully think how each mod will react to each other

dude at those power levels (simple bolt ons) its a drivers race. Bolt ons can actually cause you to lose power if you're not tuned and or you have the wrong combo of mods. If you want a faster car you gotta either get a new one or go FI homie
