Buyer's guide thread?

First time poster - I searched around a while before I posted this too.

Is there a Buyer's guide thread? I understand a lot of the differences between the 03-04 and 05-06; between the awd and rwd, but I am looking for a thread that gives me some things to look out for when purchasing an 05-06 G35.

Thanks in advance for the help, and my apologies if the thread I am looking for already exists.

Thanks,

A

There are too many variables and options that come into play to ever have a useful Buyer's Guide. There are other online sources that cover it better than this forum could. Look at Edmunds.com, Automotive.com, Infinitihelp.com, and any other car site for info about the various years and models. If you have specific questions you're not sure of, then this is a good place to ask.

In general, get an 05+ over an 03-04 and make sure it has one of the Premium packages. Beyond that, it's personal preference.

Buckeye - you are totally right about all the options and that information.

I suppose I am looking more for what to watch out for on a used G35. I know they are very reliable, but (for example) should I look out for a common oil leak, are there issues with the suspension to watch out for, etc.

I am thinking of the information or issues that you guys see come up commonly and should be looked for when purchasing.

Thanks for the reply.

The 6MT's are susceptible to oil consumption. In fact, it's probably the single biggest problem with the G35. If the car has been properly maintained, i.e. you've got the service records, and it consumes oil, Infiniti will replace the engine. But you need to have your proverbial ducks in a row or you can get screwed.

Other than that, nothing major at all. A few squeaks here and there, maybe slightly elevated tire wear on the inside tread (negative camber built in), and the 03-04 wears out brakes pretty quickly, but that's pretty much it. There's a reason Consumer Reports picks it every year as a "Best Bet" (or whatever they call it).

I am looking into purchasing a 06 6MT Sedan from a local dealer. Is there anyway to check whether the car has the oil consumption problem before I buy it? On a related note, what percentage of 06' 6MT sedans have this oil consumption problem?

Thanks!
