Front Bumper Opinion: Lip or Rookie?

So here’s the dilemma.

I hit an ice chest on the interstate a few months ago and it busted up my front bumper. Since then I stitched it up with zip ties to keep it in tack. The crack starts on the left vent goes through the middle bottom of bumper and up to right vent.

Here are my options:
1: Get the Rookie front bumper
2: Try and fix the current bumper and repaint
3: Get the ings lip, because it will cover up the cracks. Problem is the lip is scarce. I believe Kris79@MachIII has the mold for this lip but probably won’t make it unless there is other interest.
4: Keep it the way it is till i have money for the Rookie and wheels.

Things to consider, I’m on z suspension and stock 18’s and can’t upgrade for a while. Personally I don’t think the Rookie will look right with stock 18’s. As for the OEM lip, I don’t like how it dips in the middle, so that option is out. What you guys think?

Here’s how the car looks.

Rookie's bumper.

I've seen a pretty slick looking GSedan in your color w/ the rookies' bumper and paint matched emblem-less grille.

That along with clear corners and black headlight housings, it'll look sick!

I'd say get a lip if you can find one. Rookie bumper looks good but not for me. And I've seen a few horror stories here already with accidents, cracking etc.

I like rookies bumper but i'm not sure if i like it on my car..

Rookies bumper if sold with 6+ people shipped will run you $425 and if we ever get the ING+1 lip again, the old price was $280 shipped. OEM lip from what i understand is sold out but ebay has a listing for like $350 or so

Everytime i see Marcus's car, i'm like im getting a rookie. But don't think it will look as good with stock wheels. The lines on the ebay lip doesnt flow well. The edges are too sharp.

The only thing i don't like about this lip is the part in red. Wish they extended it through the middle instead of it dipping in.

A little off topic, but I kinda like the look of the stock bumper w/o the lower grills. Hmmm, maybe I'll try it to see how it looks on LS. Probably not as good as on your car.

I'm a fan of the Rookie though. I think it would look OK on your stock wheels, but it would sit awfully low!!

I like the way the bumper looks w/o the lower grills also, only thing is when you get close you can see the "stuff" behind it. Being that you car is LS the "stuff" will prob show up a lil more.

You think the Rookie will be low with my current setup? Maybe the stock wheels will look better spacers?

The "horror" stories you are mentioning don't lend themselves to the Rookie bumper being low quality fiberglass, its quite the opposite. A couple people have hit things on the road would have absolutely thrashed other fiberglass bumpers, but the KuRookie held up very well given the circumstances and was able to be repaired with no issues.

The Kurookie does sit lower to the ground than an OEM bumper though so if you are lowered more than 2" you need to be especially mindful of this. But if you are sitting that low you are used to driving carefully in and out of driveways and over speedbumps.

Thanks dude. I'd think the OEM lip or the KuRookie would both be great options for your car. The KuRookie would look sweet with stock 18s, I've seen this combo in person (don't have pics of that car). Paint your grill and headlights and you'll be set!

Johnnyone 08-11-2009 09:18 PM

^NP. and there you go posting so that i can drool over your car. Sitting low and flush, emblemless, rookie = WIN!. I've seen a blk sedan, emblemless, rookie and fog lights and it also looks good.

I like the rookie but i do so much driving. Do you not like the way the ings lip flows on the sedan?
