G35 interior noise. Dealer can't fix. Help?

Hi,
I have a 2006 G35X which recently developed an interior noise and the dealership is not getting close to finding a fix.
Here's what it is:
Sounds like a creaking type noise somewhere in the center console up towards the shifter. Happens when breaking and when going over bumpy roads. Dealership replaced my knob shifter and the plate under the shifter with the "PNRD" printed on it. Noise is still there. They have NO idea what the issue is. Now they want to keep it another 5 days and put some kind of padding in the center console. They're guessing at this point, trying to troubleshoot it. Anyone had this issue and found the culprit? Oh and they replaced the shifter knob because they said it had a crack and could have been part of the noise issue. It's cheezy and cheap looking with a matte/flat finish and it looks bad. Mine was nice, shiny black like my leather interior. Now the shifter is gone. I told her then go get another off a used G35 on your lot. She said maybe the factory can send my original one back to them. Anyway, my main reason for posting is to see if anyone else has had this noise in the area I'm talking about and what the fix was.
Thanks,
Mary in Boston

VQ, what things did your dealership try, just so we can compare and keep track as we go along?

i have that noise too, i belive the springs in the armrest because when i push down, it replicates the noise. im going to attempt to grease them up and see if hat works

Bbs

bbs,
Do you mean in the armrest of the center console where you rest your right elbow? Because my noise seems to be smack dead center of the car, particularly up near the shifter but you know how noises can go, seems like one place and ends up being another. So do you mean you're going to grease the center console area where the hinge is?

I would just disassemble the console and armrest and drive around til the sound is gone. That will help narrow it down

Mustang,
Great idea, but I have no idea how to disassemble the console! I'm handy but not that handy. Grrr..

Hey everyone, the other annoying noise I can't seem to locate is a slight window rattle on the upper side of the driver's window. It's not loud, it's subtle but annoying. Anyone found a cause or fix for that?

Wrathernaut Nov 3, 2009 04:51 PM

I had a little bit of noise from my driver's window + squeak from the top when it rolled up.

I cleaned the inside of the rubber window guide with Meguiar's Trim Detailer until no more nasty dirt came back on the rag. Squeak's gone now.

Update on console noise

Thanks Wrathernaut, I will try that too.

Regarding the console noise: I picked up my car tonite for the center console creaking. They put foam padding of some type along the inside underneath, where the two main hard plastic console pieces meet, kind of near the shifter. I drove it home from the dealership and it seemed a lot better. Let's hope that it stays! I'll post again for those of you following this thread in hopes that it helps you with your same noise issue.

i got the same noise. i thought mine was the magnets on the center console lid. it was a little grimey on them so i cleaned it up and i guess it has more of a contact area now it doesnt make as much noise. not sure if its the same type of problem, but thats what mine was.

catsnmusic Nov 3, 2009 05:56 PM

Bluemax, was your noise a creaking? Mine was not a rattle. It was a definite creaking like rubber on plastic creaking. Curious if my foam padding fix will last. Time will tell. The driver window is annoying me too.

bluemax189 Nov 3, 2009 09:59 PM

mine was kind of like a little tapping. then the other annoying one i have is the lower steering column plastic. i hate that one. if i press against it with my knee while driving no rattleing lol.
