Oh man, VDC/SLIP/Speedo/Tach/Transmission and other electronic issues.

I've had a bit of a frustrating day. I drove my car this morning just fine and later in the day when I started the car I noticed rough gear changing when going into drive or reverse. I then noticed that the VDC and SLIP lights were illuminated and I was really hoping that this was a low brake fluid issue but the fluid levels were fine. I started driving the car and the transmission was shifting gears with noticeable roughness, particularly the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. Sometime soon the service engine light illuminated and I noticed the speedometer was reading zero. I decided to drive the car to the dealership and noticed on the highway that the transmission was rather busy, continuously up/down shifting and the tachometer was bouncing all over the place, not even seeming to be relative to actual engine speed. At some point on the freeway the transmission just allowed the engine to rev as if i was slipping and then power would come back and cut out. I took the next exit and by the time I was off I was pretty much limping along at 5mph. I would just rev without moving at every stop and by switching from drive, to manual, to neutral power would eventually come back for a short bit and then slip again (engine hit max rev's with ease). I noticed at the same time that when putting the car into manumatic shifting, the dash cluster did not register the change from D to M. My emergency blinkers were all over the place as well, the timing between blinks wasn't even and sometimes they would stay on longer than normal between blinks. I wasn't even sure if they were visible on the outside. I ended up leaving the car in a parking lot until I can get to it tomorrow. Does anyone have any ideas? I've read a bunch of threads related to slip/vdc but none seem to have the transmission shifting and slipping issues.

It sounds like a massive electrical issue. Probably need to go to a shop.

bluemax189 02-06-2010 08:58 AM

i agree with blue dream. tow it to a shop. Good job on just leaving it before it gets real bad

Dacket84 02-06-2010 11:41 AM

That sound like a very stressful time, sorry to hear. I would get it to a Nissan/Infiniti stealership to fix it. Somebody who knows these cars, rather than some random shop. Good luck with it.

dmitriylm 02-06-2010 11:50 AM

Yeah, I've never seen a situation where even the blinkers aren't functioning correctly. I'm heading out to get the car and tow it to a shop. Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be something horribly expensive.

Make sure you haven't lost your tranny fluid.

thatshortkid 02-07-2010 10:45 PM

Um it could just be me thinking this but somehow I doubt that is gonna be a cheap thing to fix. With that many issues all happening at once I am thinking its gonna be expensive. Did it just randomly start doing all this? Could something have triggered it?

dmitriylm 02-08-2010 01:46 AM

It all happened at one time and the probability of multiple components failing at the same time is relatively low. The shop I towed the vehicle to did a quick scan on Saturday and came back with something similar to "network communication error" and "speedometer module error". They will get to work on it on Monday to see if they can figure out whats wrong. I'm hoping its a single component, probably electrical, that's causing all the issues.

SedanManBen 02-08-2010 08:07 AM

Wow... I'm sorry to hear about that. If something similar happened to me, I'd probably start cryin'. haha

Keep us updated on what needs to be done to get your problem solved!

They pulled the following codes:

P0500
U1000
U1001
P1212
P1574

That somehow doesn't look fun to me. Do you have any idea what that stuff means?

I'm actually searching around right now to see if I can find out.

thatshortkid 02-08-2010 01:34 PM

Alright let us know what you find!

dmitriylm 02-08-2010 01:46 PM

Here are the code details:

DTC: P0500

Search Bulletins/Recalls for P0500

Trouble diagnosis name: Vehicle speed sensor

Diagnosis Logic

The vehicle speed sensor is installed in the transaxle. It contains a pulse generator which provides a vehicle speed signal to the combination meter. The

combination meter then sends a signal to the ECM through CAN communication line.

DTC detecting condition:

* The almost 0 km/h (0 MPH) signal from vehicle speed sensor is sent to ECM even when vehicle is being driven.

Possible cause:

* Harness or connectors (The CAN communication line is open or shorted)
* Harness or connectors (The vehicle speed sensor circuit is open or shorted)
* Vehicle speed sensor
* Combination meter
_________

DTC: P1574

Search Bulletins/Recalls for P1574

Trouble diagnosis name: Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) vehicle speed sensor

Component Description

The ECM receives two vehicle speed sensor signals via CAN communication line. One is sent from combination meter, and the other is from TCM (Transmission

control module). The ECM uses these signals for ASCD control.

DTC detecting condition:

* ECM detects a difference between two vehicle speed signals is out of the specified range.

Possible cause:

* Harness or connectors (The CAN communication line is open or shorted.)
* Harness or connectors (The combination meter circuit is open or shorted.)
* Combination meter
* Vehicle speed sensor
* TCM
* Incorrect ASCD brake switch installation
* ECM

DTC: P1212

Search Bulletins/Recalls for P1212

Trouble diagnosis name: ABS/TCS communication line

Description

This CAN communication line is used to control the smooth engine operation during the ABS or TCS operation. Pulse signals are exchanged between ECM and

ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit).

DTC detecting condition:

* ECM can not receive the information from ABS/TCS control unit continuously.

Possible cause:

* Harness or connectors (The CAN communication line is open or shorted.)
* ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit)
* Dead (Weak) battery

All of the codes point to a CAN malfunction.

Wannabe6MT 02-08-2010 01:48 PM

Did you google the codes?

EDIT: Beat me too it. This is an issue you might want to have your dealer look at. This sounds pretty similar to what happened to our 04, and as i recall, it was quite expensive to fix.
